First Look: Mulberry for Target

First Look: Mulberry for Target

In case you missed the Mulberry for Target flash-sale hosted by Gilt.com a couple weeks ago, here are some pics from around the web showcasing the bags we can expect to see in the collection, which launches October 10, 2010.

The range comprises of eight handbag styles priced under $50 and aims to evoke the Mulberry "brand spirit, rather than a compromise on quality." The collection will not use real leather, rather it will use fabrics such as denim, velvet and PVC allowing for "playful and innovative" designs while maintaining an accessible price point.

I can't hide my disappointment at the fact that these bags look more like Juicy Couture or Betseyville knockoffs, with no in sight, but I'll wait until I see them in person to see if tears will be shed.

More pics after the jump.

I like the mini cross body in denim but everything is trendier than I expected. Eh. :-(

Yeah, I was hoping they'd have something similar to the red Neely bag, but it looks like I'm probably our of luck. Oh, well. At least I won't have to feel bad about splurging on another purse.

I saw the Gilt Group preview and have to admit I was a little disappointed as well. Let's hope there are some great styles yet to be revealed.

To me it just doesn't have that "Mulberry" feel.
I realize they had to keep the prices down, but just as you said, it is more Juicy Couture than Mulberry.
More of a classic look for me please.

I think I'm going to pass on these collection. It is my resolve to try and purchase more leather bag next year so I'm am moving on.

I can't get over how the patent looks really cheap compared to even faux-leather grained handbags.
This and the DV collection have just made me really lose faith in Target's collabs lately!

I dig the black bags, but the denim and the hot pink leopard (seriously... how is that Mulberry-esque?) are not doing it. I could be talked into that last satchel if I were guaranteed the stupid little heart fobs will come off, but I probably wouldn't spend the money without urging.

I was very disappointed as well. They look so cheap, and not the least bit classy. I mean it looks like shiny plastic. Like a Barbie bag.

i actually like the collection...for bags under $50, it's really not bad!! it's in a better price range than most mulberry knock-offs actually...
i love the patent black bag and the shoulder bag...and i think the heart adds a girly touch to it which also appeals to me n_n...overall i'm surprised i'm in the minority because i love this collection (minus the super ugmo pink leopard...that i can't excuse lol...)

You hit the nail on the head... very Betsyville :-(

Wow....what a letdown! I'll pass on this collection. The only designer that did "faux patent" well was RAFE for Target, IMO (and that was about 5 years ago!).

Well, it wouldn't be very smart for Mulberry to make a cheaper version of their most popular bag, I don't think. Regardless, I'm pretty excited for these. I like the pink leopard bag, but I hope it comes in blue leopard.

I see your point but I don't think that someone who is going to pay $1,000 for a bag is the same customer who is willing to pay $40-$50 for a bag. Research has proven this, too, I'll try to find some references :-)

I like the 2 black satchels. I'm excited! I wish they were cheaper because I can buy the same designer stuff at TJMAXX and Marshalls for around the same price, but I'm still going to look when it officially comes out. I'm excited!

Add me to the list of people who were disappointed. I'm not twelve. I don't need everything pink and shiny.

As someone who paid 1250.00 for the black patent Bayswater which "inspired' this knock off I am not at all amused by this collection.

Next time, will toss my $$$ in the bank toward a Birkin as I think its unlikely Hermes will be knocking themselves off for a quick profit.

As I continue to look through their lines...several of their bags, Kate including yours, looks like a Hermes knockoff. You just paid 1200 for it.

I have to agree with many responses I think that considering these are under $50 these are nice and I love the denim bag. (I might have to add that to my collection)

However...it sucks to be you Kate. You're 1200.00 bag is now being sold for under 50 and it looks strikingly similar. (minus the lock) If you want a purse that isnt going to "dumbed down" and sold at mass quantity then you need to stick to the Gucci, LV, Hermes, Ferragamo, Chanel route. Otherwise, its up for grabs.

And quite honestly...a few of Mulberry bags look like Hermes knock offs anyways.

I bought the mini crossbody in velvet. Great little going out bag as a gift for my boss. She loves it. Perfect to wear for a girl's night out.

I bought the small patent satchel. True it is VERY shiny but i think it would look good paired with a leather jacket at night as a little evening bag! The male cashier at my Target said wow that's expensive when he saw it. Even he knew the value wasn't there.
I wanted to like the pink leopard, but I don't (and I am a leopard addict) The blue denim is pretty bad up close also. That's why your best bet is the patent and the smaller size forgives the quality of the bag.
