Off the Rack: William Rast for Target

Yesterday I visited my nearest Target store to check out the newly launched William Rast for Target collection. The selection was pretty limited but I can say that the jeans fit true to size and the styles are fresh so if you need a new pair of jeans, these are worth checking out. They're made out of that really soft stretchy denim, similar to a designer brand like Chip & Pepper. There's also a great pair of skinny cargos, the rise isn't perfect and they were too short on me but the styling is undoubtedly hot and a great buy for $39.99. My other observation is that some of the tops seem to run a bit small, I was an XS in the tank tops, S in the khaki jacket and a M in the studded denim shirt. Try on in person if possible. I'm hoping to check out more pieces at other Target stores. No one at my Target seemed to blink an eye as they walked past the display so I'm sure I will be able to get a few things on clearance. It's all very wearable, it's all cool. But I can't help but think that wearing head-to-toe William Rast would mean I'm not even trying...then again, maybe that's a good thing?

More photos after the jump. Did anyone see the leather jackets in person? What did you buy?

Thanks for this, I had a couple things in my online Target basket, but never pulled the trigger. And, I thought the pink blouse came with the neck tie! It was an OK collection, nothing totally awesome.

I've been waiting for this collection to roll out. In the store I went to (York, PA), the item offerings from the collection were pretty small, the mens selection even smaller. But! I tried on most everything and bought 3 items. A pair of the dark bootcut jeans, which I found true to size. And unlike WR's premium line, the rise isn't super duper low. I found the denim for all the jeans to be decent quality, soft and stretchy, and the stitching very clean and tight. The rise on the skinnies seemed to fit a little strange, but it could just be me. I also bought the pink shirt in a large, which I really like the cut of and the dark grey studded tank top, which on me, I sized down to a medium. And besides the t-shirts, that was all that was there, none of the skirts, cargos, leather jackets, nada. Not many people checking out the collection it seemed and at least there were plenty of sizes to choose from despite such a limited number of items in the store.

The Harrisburg East one had slim pickings as well.

I bought a pair of the skinnies. The quality of the denim is pretty good for its price point and for those who don't like low rises, this is a great alternative. Comfy fit, true-to-size.

I don't know. I was pretty disappointed. The fabrics seemed cheap. The styling was really dated too (no more studs and zippers please). It was very ho hum.

I love those pants you're wearing in the photo...if those are the one that were too short etc, thats a shame.
Looks like a decent collection for slightly more interesting basics, though :-)

love your blog

Hmm, I must say that I am slightly disappointed with this collection. Maybe it's just because they had so little to choose from in the stores? I saw several things I wanted when the promos first came out, but now I'm hoping they'll be in stores. I really wanted the camel leather coat. Also, I agree with Loaks, I'm way tired of studs and zippers. Eek.

I really wanted to try some of the jeans on, as all of my cheap skinnies seem to stretch out of shape within 15 minutes of putting them on, but my local Target doesn't have any of the jeans. Has anyone bought/worn them and if so, do they hold their shape well?

Loving that ruffled vest, the short sleeved sweatshirt, not so much...

Did you get a chance to look at the black ponte leggings and black jeggings??

Nope my store didn't have them :-(

I bought them but wasn't sure of the quality. I guess there's still some stuff online so it doens't seem like people are going too crazy over this collection.

Very disappointed that they stuck to their "designer" guts on the only going up to a size 31 on their jeans and pants, especially when most designers at least go up to a 32. You’re designing a line for Target...it’s not super-exclusive anymore. Target carries up to a Junior’s 17 on most lines...and sometimes even has a few 19’s. I think every “designer” line that sells at Target should include these sizes. Not ALL people who wear a 32+ are “fat”...I was a 31/32 in 7’s when I was 105 lbs...I just happen to have huge hips and bigger thighs. Just wish designers would stop excluding people with my shape...I miss being able to wear my premium denim!!

I think the stuff looks a little budget also - that denim shirt is godawful.

Meh....I wasn't really impressed with this line. While the quality of the denim seemed OK, the finish was ruined (at least on the boot cut styles) with over-exaggerated (read: fake-looking) whiskering and fading. Seriously, didn't that look go out YEARS ago?

PS: I agree with Nikki on the sizing. Could it have killed them to offer a size 32? And to add insult to injury, there's a "size chart" on the William Rast signage clearly spelling out that the jeans only go up to size 31"/15. Which is also inaccurate, because a size 31 is supposed to be a size 14, not 15.

I decided to get the khaki jacket and that's it. I had to get a large but it fits good.

Maybe I need to see this in person, but I don't like one single thing. The vest is OK, but still not worth it. I'm thinking this line isn't really my style.
