Did I just blow your mind? It's hard to believe that Juicy Couture, the once glamorous LA-brand created by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor in 1997, would find itself at a budget retailer in 2014. And yet, this story says so much about the state of the fashion industry today. Brands that start out as cool, original, and presumably unique design expressions get bought and sold and licensed until they're really only a glimmer of their former selves - except for behemoth sales figures.
Juicy Couture for Kohl's looks like a mash-up of styles from other Kohl's lines - think Princess Vera meets Rock & Republic (another once-cool brand that now calls Kohl's it's sole retail home). Make no mistake: These velour tracksuits and graphic tees are not the Juicy Couture you once knew (and maybe even were a fan of). But Kohl's is banking on plenty of consumers not really knowing or caring.
So let's have a look, shall we? Priced from $14-300, the fall collection includes items like bejeweled sweatshirts, edgy tanks, funky shoes and chunky chain jewelry for a casual-glam attitude. I wasn't really a Juicy girl back in the 90s and early aughts, and I'm certainly not a JC x Kohl's girl now. (But watch, I'll be at Kohl's next month when the line launches being all, there's some cute stuff here!)
How about you, are you excited to see Juicy Couture come to Kohl's? See any pieces you'll be buying?
