Capsule Wardrobe: Inspired by Sally Hansen's 'Boho Chic' Nail Polish Collection

Capsule Wardrobe
Welcome back to Fashion Capsule (and my favorite part of each week)! In this weekly segment, I will show you how to style three items under $50 for an entire week’s worth of outfits. This week’s outfits were all inspired by the new Sally Hansen “Boho Chic” Miracle Gel collection. The seven colors are perfect for a summer festival-inspired capsule wardrobe. I normally am very hesitant with trying bold nail polish colors. My prior belief was that nail polish and underwear should follow the same color scheme: stick with either nude or black. This collection, however, was the perfect group of colors to pull me out of this funk. Let’s get started!

The Pieces:

ENZA COSTA Striped Tank $40
Simple, but effective. I love a striped shirt, or striped anything really. I was shopping the other day and I stumbled across lunchboxes. I will be starting a new job on Monday and I thought that a new lunchbox would be a swell idea. When selecting the one I wanted, I noticed I was cosmically attached to the striped one. Then I realized, that I am always cosmically attached to every item of clothing that has stripes on it. So, the point being, I love stripes.

San Diego Hat Company Knit Fedora $39
This looks like a nice, solid hat that will transition really well from summer to the fall season. I also, apparently, cannot resist a wide-brim fedora.

TOPSHOP Moto Authentic Bleached Mom Shorts $44
Low-rise, low-cut shorts are out. As I was flipping through the style files from Coachella and such, I noticed that the style of shorts has taken a major redesign (or they’ve relapsed). Mom shorts are in, people. I repeat, Mom shorts are in. I like it. Actually, I really like it. They’re comfortable and can actually be really cute. High-waisted is more flattering anyway.

If you were headed off to a music festival, chances are that the weather is going to be crazy hot. You’re standing outside all day and sweating, but you still want to look adorable. This top is perfect for that. It is flowy which will cool you off. Because this look is fairly monotone and you will want to stand out from the crowd, polish on some Rhapsody Red (updates classic cardinal red with a blue undertone) from Sally Hansen. It will add just the pop you need.

I love these tiny, tiny skirts from MANGO. I think I have used this same skirt several weeks in a row. They remind me of Clueless. Going along with the Clueless vibe, is the bright pink nail polish. This shade is called Tipsy Gypsy (a bubbly, bright pink). It reminds me of the movie poster for that one Alicia Silverstone movie that has failed to disappear from pop culture.

Another lemon clutch? Yes, another lemon clutch. I promise I am not picking them out on purpose. As I was flipping through the pictures from Coachella, like I mentioned before, I saw a picture that I swooned over. It was Solange Knowles in a lemon frock. I loved how refreshing it looked. I tried to match that same refreshing quality in this outfit. To counter the frivolousness of the lemon clutch, I added the dark purple Boho-A-Go-Go color (a deep, creamy eggplant). Because this clutch needs to be held, the bright yellow and the dark purple will constantly be seen paired together. It will add the perfect amount of contrast.

If you are attending any music festival, you will need rain boots. Because this is a budget capsule wardrobe and not Kate Moss’s wardrobe, very expensive boots are not an option. These cute boots are perfect however. I love the hint of yellow. As a sidebar, my future wedding colors will be yellow and blue. That is why I added the blue nail polish, Beatnik by Sally Hansen (a statement-making cobalt), to this outfit. I think blue and yellow really complement each other really well. They’re like the sun and the sky.

Is there anything more refreshing than a tropical print top? Maybe a lemon clutch, but this works too. Gladiator sandals that wrap all the way up your legs, like these MANGO ones, are perfect style-wise. Don’t blame me, however, if you end up with really strange tan lines. To be truthful, I picked this outfit out almost exclusively inspired by the color nail polish. The minty color of Sally Hansen’s Mintage (a medium-toned mint) really led the way in choosing the pieces for this look. I think they look great though. Mintage has really good style.

This H&M dress is unbelievably easy and breezy. I think I would wear this dress every day of my life, if possible. The colors are perfect for summer and perfect for standing in a large crowd watching a concert. You will be perfectly comfortable. I added the Fishtail nail polish (an aquatic turquoise) in part because this dress reminds me of something a beached mermaid would wear if she just grew legs. Additionally, I thought that the colors of the dress and the color of this nail polish really complemented each other. I’m not a super matchy-matchy person, if you couldn’t already tell. I don’t like when things match, I like when they complement. The dark pink and the teal color really do fit that bill.

And we’re back at our original pieces, except for a little addition. I added the Sally Hansen color, Miss Wanderlust (packs colorful glitter into a soft stunning coral) to our outfit. It has the perfect amount of shimmer to end, or start, your week.

Has a nail polish ever inspired your entire look? What is your favorite outfit/nail color from the bunch?
