After months of anticipation, the Marimekko for Target collection finally launched on Sunday and in some ways already feels like old news (funny how that work in the fashion world)...but here's my review. I was able to get to my Target store late Sunday afternoon and found almost everything was still in stock in many sizes. I was the only one perusing the items. I personally love Marimekko and have for some time, so I was excited by this collab but still thought there was room for improvement. The fabrics were really cheap even by fast fashion standards. Think scratchy terrycloth and barely-there rayon.
Since the theme was endless summer, it was mostly beachy coverups and swimsuits. I thought the little girl's clothes were the cutest - the colorful eclectic prints lend themselves to whimsical looks for little ones.
I thought things fit pretty true to size - for your reference, I'm wearing size M in the multicolor tunic, size S/M in the terrycloth poncho, size M in the blue/black top, size S/M in the kaftan, and size M in the palazzo pants (super long even on me and I'm 5'8"). My sister overheard shoppers say the sizing was very generous.
Since I'm not really in the market for a swimsuit or coverup, I didn't buy any of the clothes. In the home section, I thought the melamine plates looked dull in person. I wish Target had sold pillow cases rather than pillows. My sister bought the tent and said the construction is really solid and nice. But we both agreed that certain items could have been omitted from the collection - like the $100 bocce ball set or whatever it was.
The tote bags were really nice and well priced while the towels were cool but not the best quality for the price.
I shopped online in the wee hours of the night and bought 2 tote bags, two sets of kitchen dish towels, two beach towels, two scarves, and a set of plates. I may return some items, we'll see.
I wish they had made a water resistant picnic blanket, maybe an insulated lunch box or thermos or water bottles - stuff I could really use this summer! And my sister just wanted some indoor items like a duvet or throw...stuff we can use beyond the "endless" summer.
What did you think of the collection and what did you buy??

I was also disappointed that they decided not to include the poppy print. I guess they wanted to make a clear distinction between their high-end collection and this fast-fashion collab...I would have loved to have seen a rain umbrella, too!
All in all I'd say you had a successful haul - my online purchases arrived yesterday (super fast!) but I haven't opened the boxes yet. Hoping to do that today.
I do have a sewing machine, I love your pillow case idea...
Appreciate your feedback, hope Target is listening! Thanks for commenting.
