What I Wore: McQ for Target Let-Down + CK Pumps from DSW

During my last trip to Target, I was flipping through the clearance racks when I stumbled upon this McQ Alexander McQueen for Target jumpsuit—the very one I had been lusting after since the first lookbook pics were released. Mind you, my Target did not carry the McQ collection, so when I found this lone piece, in my size, I was overjoyed. And, it was on sale! $40 down from $59. I tried it on in the dressing room and thought it was just about the best thing ever. Gleefully, I took my prize to the register, where a Target employee explained that their store had received a very limited quantity of McQ merchandise (I assumed it was an online return. If your store never carried the collection, check the sales racks and you might find something.)

Fast forward to this past Wednesday: I stepped into my jumpsuit and snapped myself in (I was gonna wear it to the Rachel Roy event)...but as I gazed in the mirror, my illusions were dashed. What was I thinking?? This jumpsuit did absolutely nothing to flatter my figure. It puckered when I sat down, and pulled in all the wrong places when I tried to bend over or just move around. How it went from hero to zero in such a short time is a mystery, but then again, it wouldn't be the first time I bought something that looked great in the dressing room and terrible at home. Moral of the story: Don't get caught up in the hype (but you knew that already!)

This story of shopping woe has a silver lining. Those CK pumps I scored at DSW? Still AMAZING. They make my legs look miles long and the platform in front makes them reasonably comfortable. Here's me wearing them with a Forever 21 skirt, Target button-down shirt, Target belt and turquoise necklace. Ah, much better than the jumpsuit, don't you think?

Anyone else have a recent fashion blunder they'd care to share?

Girl you can totally rock that jumpsuit! I like it! From the pic, at least! Get some amazing, bright accessories and I think it could work. :-)

But of course $40 is still kinda ...well $40...so you could always return it and get something else!Especially if you dont feel comfortable in it.

PS I LOVE that second outfit and the shoes ARE fabulous!

i disagree...i think the jumpsuit looks killer on you! shows off your tiny waist and long legs.

I think the jumpsuit looked great. It really elongated your body.

The jumpsuit looks amazing on you! It's just right for your body type. I say add a really bright skinny belt (turquoise comes to mind again), basically anything eye popping, a couple of other accessories and you're good to go. GREAT shoes. I wish there was a DSW near me (first I've ever heard of it, actually).

I'm with everyone else....I didn't know what the 'let down' part was until I read the whole thing, and I'm still like...'but she looks great!?!?!'

Uh, the jumpsuit looks fab on you! It definitely highlights your legs, and you have awesome legs. However, based on your complaints, it seems like it's the type of outfit that looks great when you're standing still, but when you start moving, bending down, sitting, etc. everything looks off. If you don't feel comfortable, it doesn't matter how good it looks.

You guys are too sweet! I was expecting comments along the lines of, "You could always return it" or "Sell it on ebay!" LOL. I think Joann makes a good point though, it's when I start moving around in it that things get dicey. But nothing's stopping me from just wearing it to a restaurant for dinner... I'm going to reconsider =)

I think jumpsuit looks good on you. Love those killer CK pumps. I am on hunt for some black pumps too.

Love the black and white printed skirt. I have a similar one from Macy's (sale of course!) and sometimes pair it with a chunky belt and a red shirt. I think you did a great job - those shoes are hot!

I think the jumpsuit looks great on you! But so does the skirt/top combo. You have such a great figure :-)

Speaking of Forever 21, Giving a way FREE dress on my blog! New with Tag, F21 :-)

BTW the second outfit IS better but I'm not a fan of jumpsuits in general...you still looked good in it, regardless!!

You are TOO HARD on yourself, BB. The jumpsuit looks amazing. But, if you'd been uncomfortable, it wouldn't have been the right choice ...

And either way, those pumps are truly amazing. ;-)

what! i thought the jumpsuit looked great on you! lol then i read on and i still thought it looked great...but i went through the same thing. i excitedly bought a jumper from charlotte ronson's line for jcpenny when it went on sale, and after a while, i realized it made me look so kiddish (mostly because it didn't flatter my petite figure and it was floral) ...so now its just sitting in my closet. i think i might have the bottom cut off and use it as a top.

2nd outfit wins hands down! its just much more stylized. maybe with the right accessories the jumpsuit would work better I don't know. I know that everyone is talking about jumpsuits but I don't think I am a fan. HOWEVER, this jumpsuit is very flattering on you in that picture and I think jumpsuits are hard to pull off! BUT you have to feel good in something! love love love the 2nd outfit and your right those pumps make your legs look super long

Jumpsuits don't look good on ANYONE ladies!

The material on this one is especially cheap looking or is it the photo. I'm with you...what were you thinking?

Unfortunately I've done this with very blunder with online purchases. An very expensive mistake. This is why I hesitate to purchase from TopShop -- their pricey shipping fee ($15!)

The shoes -- excellent! The outfit, I may have opted for a brighter belt.

I think you have already heard this but the jumpsuit looks GREAT on you!

The jumpsuit looks best! It makes so much more of a statement than the 2nd outfit! You know so much about fashion, so why not show that off?

The same thing happened to me with a jumpsuit. I bought a Silence and Noise one from Urban Outfitters. Waited excitedly for it for 2 months after being on backorder. I tried it on and loved it, but EVERY TIME I attempt to wear it out anywhere, I just can't do it. I just can't seem to make it work, so there it hangs in my closet, probably never to be worn... :-)

Not many people can pull off this look (the jumpsuit), but you wear it well. I think with the shoes it definitely works.

I think the point isn't so much that it looks bad on you as that, given how you can look in other outfits, it clearly doesn't do you justice. You can look so much better, so I'd say it's a return.

I totally missed this post, you look so cute BB. I love the jumpsuit. By the time I got to all 4 of the Targets in my city - the jumpsuit was gone. I did have my friend hold one for me at customer service but kept going back and forth in my mind about spending the $60 or $80 dollar, can't remember how much it was.
