Gisele Bundchen is World's Richest Model

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen is the world's richest model according to Forbes.com, having earned $33 million in the last 12 months. That's more than triple the amount made by Kate Moss, who came in second place with $9 million. (And we thought the supermodel was a dying breed!)

Gisele has always been one of our favorite models. She's impossibly tall, glamorous and has always exuded a strong, confident and, come to think of it, healthy energy. A budget babe, she may not be, but she sure makes fashion look good!

Since we're on the subject, do you think models make too much? Not enough? Do you follow your fave models or prefer they remain nameless mannequins? What do you think about the dominant trend in fashion to use actresses as spokesmodels instead of supermodels?

While you're pondering those questions, see who else you can recognize from the list...

2-4: Kate, Heidi and Adriana
5-7: Alessandra, Carolyn, Natalia
8-10: Karolina, Daria, Gemma
11-13: Liya, Hilary, Shalom
14-15: Doutzen, Jessica

my problem is not with models making loads of money (if people want to pay them that much, that's their problem, not mine) - my issue is with using 13-year old stick insects to model clothes worn by 30-year old women. these girls look ill. bravo to spain for outlawing anorexia on the runways. and boo to karl lagerfeld for saying he doesn't want any models with breasts. isn't that one of the things that separates us from the boys? giselle is gorgeous, has breasts, and looks healthy. bytheway, have you ever seen her mother? she could also be a model. these ladies have great genes.

I think that 30+ million is ludacris- actually, I think that going in the millions is ridiculous in general! Its just another way society teaches us that the way to (worldly) success is not through any effort of our own but by either our genes or our eating disorders.

oh, and maybe Kate would have been able to make more if she didn't get fired from a couple jobs for doing Coke... sad.... I don't think she'll be able to keep up her habit on just the 9 million....

she just got bumped from burberry again and agent provocateur replaced her because it's reported she is showing cellulite on her legs and her arms are too sinewy (that's cindy adams of the NY Post reporting this). if they really wanted to keep her, they could always airbrush, right?
so much for her 'heroin chic' style.

then there's tyra banks, who was absolutely stunning as a model. then she opened her mouth. she reminds me of a disney villainess.

OMg! don't even get me started on Tyra! that chick is crazy! Have you seen that show of hers?! "VASELINE FOR EVERYONEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! AAAHHHHHHHH!" (if you don't know what i'm talking about, look it up on youtube... shes crazy)

Hey now, play nice!

OK, so Tyra thinks she's the next Oprah. Frankly, we applaud her for branching out and taking her career to the next level rather than sitting around and waiting for a youth-obsessed industry to discard her like last week's trash. You go, Tyra!

Now to defend Kate...she's a brilliant model and the labels who fired her for drug use should take a good, long look at themselves and the images they themselves perpetuate. Besides, she went to rehab and hasn't looked waifish in years. We're also glad she ranked #2 at 33 years young. Same goes for Heidi, who is 34!

Also, Natalia Vodianova should be lauded for speaking out against anorexia. Takes courage.

Finally, Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede is certainly a role model (not that models are required to be such) for her work to help mothers and children in Africa and as a Goodwill Ambassador.
