The Look for Less: Current/Elliott The Perfect Shirt

Current&Elliot at ShopStyle

Everything about "The Perfect Shirt" by Current/Elliott—a button-down, long-sleeve chambray shirt in the softest sun-faded hue and breathable cotton—truly is perfect. Everything, that is, except the price. It's not exorbitant by any means but $188 is a lot of money to spend on one shirt. Let's look for some cheaper alternatives, shall we?

J.Crew at ShopStyle

For once, J. Crew offers a more affordable version of something! Their perfect chambray shirt is $98 and probably worth every penny (can't say for sure as I do not own one, but I can see this quickly becoming your favorite shirt for summer). Wear it just as you see it here, with colorful shorts and a delicate necklace. Love it!

BDG at ShopStyle

Urban Outfitters also has an affordable chambray shirt for $52, available in either a dark or light wash. Take a cue from this product shot and wear your chambray shirt as you might wear a cardigan—it's a great lightweight layer that will look great over camis, dresses, even rompers. Add a belt on top for even more stylish possibilities.

Gap at ShopStyle

This near-perfect chambray shirt costs just $49.50, and while it's actually for men, a fellow blogger and reader named Chelsea recently dropped me a note to say that she works for the Gap and has noticed many of the men's shirts actually fit her better and are generally priced lower than the women's clothing. The lesson: Borrow from the boys and save some cash!

Think you'll pick up a chambray shirt for summer?

Once again...a 1980s revival that can be easily found in a thrift store.

'n I gotta say...all these fashion blogs are really activating a pet peeve of mine. These are not button-downs, they are button FRONTS.

A button-down is a shirt that has a collar whose tips have buttons to keep them...down.

BB the only one I like is the J Crew one b/c the others remind me of the awful ones I wore in the 80's and during pregnancy(although they were not fitted) -so finding an 80's one in a thrift store (as someone, up there, said) would not be as fitted as the ones you are showing :):)

OHHH the Current/Elliot one is sheer perfection. I love this look a lot actually even if it is a tad 80's. Its so laid back chic. The JCrew one is super cute too. Definately wanting to pick one of these lovlies up, but I agree with Real Style Real People -- the ones in thrift stores are not going to fit like this.

Want to hear a good one BB?

I totally just "borrowed" a similiar style shirt, but a bit oversized, from my dad as a coverup shirt for my painting class! Its a bit oversized but there's no paint on it yet...guess I'm going to try to make it work now for a cute outfit or something!

I totally adore the first one btw!

I just read an article in UK ELLE on how men's clothes at The Gap are generally better for women overall!

I work at J.Crew and our Chambray shirt fits amazing! I love the softness of it and the color is absolutely perfect. Pair it with some layered necklaces or a chunky bracelet and I think it's adorable.

But, even with the employee discount, I'm still keeping my out for a cheap version.
