My best money saving tip is to shop the sales! If I see something I really want, but can live without ... I wait it out until it's discounted. All the joy of a new thing with less guilt!

When it comes to money saving tips. I love to do flea markets, thrift stores, and auctions. I also look for bargains in weekly ads and so forth.

When it comes to clothes, I don't buy a thing at full price - not one single thing! And I shop the weekly ads at supermarkets. Yes, it might mean going to two markets every weekend...but it also means shrimp and steak at buy one get one free prices!
#2 Maria on 2009-07-27 12:29
my best money saving idea is if i see something that i think i just cant live without..i put it back on the shelve and wait three days..normally..im cured of the strong hold the object had on me..and then i realize that i can wait until it goes on sale! 75% off baby!

Coupons!

My favorite money saving tip is to head straight for the clearance and also to research percent off coupons online. Alot of stores offer it but you hjave to do the search. I got an 20% off coupon from Old Navy just by going on the website.
#5 Jenay on 2009-07-27 12:38
I use my gas barbeque grill to cook some 20 to 30 minute items that would have normally been cooked in my oven
#6 Charlene Kuser on 2009-07-27 12:44
If I see something I like in the store, I google it to see where I can get it (or something similar)for the lowest price. It is AMAZING what you can find on ebay, amazon, overtock.com, 6pm, etc!
#7 Benita Hartman on 2009-07-27 12:47
My favorite tip is to closely watch sale fliers and match their items with coupons. I know many people don't like to do this, but I can't tell you how many things I get per week FREE by doing that. I have bags full of toiletries and cleaning supplies that I've gotten free. And check out the "deal" sites that will help you link up the coupons to the ads.
#8 pamela s on 2009-07-27 12:53
My favorite money saving tip is being an informed shopper. Certain grocery stores let you combine newspaper and online coupons with their in-store coupons resulting in free to near free items. Also some of them have double up coupon days where they will double up all your coupons up to a $1.00.

After all, saving money on necessities leaves more money for fun stuff right?!
#9 Nicole on 2009-07-27 12:58
my best moneysaving tip is although you have coupons.will you actually use it? if not its not a great deal

also ask is it a need or a want- and wait on big purchases if you can- the urge usually goes away
#10 mrs.mommyy on 2009-07-27 13:05
My favorite money saving tip is to use coupon codes...You never know what those, stacked with free shipping sometimes, will get you. :-)

For FREE fashion and a good time too, have a swap party with friends. All of my friends have big feet like me:)
#12 Kim on 2009-07-27 13:18
My best tip is to always check if there are coupons available on websites like retailmenot.com to use before making a purchase.
#13 Jennifer on 2009-07-27 13:24

Best Money Saving Tips:

1. Use coupons in conjunction with sales

2. use Ebates when shopping online

3. use in-store/online rebates for products

It's a great feeling to keep the house stocked with everything my family needs, while saving money at the same time.

Buy in bulk when possible
#16 Lisa Taylor on 2009-07-27 13:39
Sales, coupons, clearance racks!
#17 Nonie on 2009-07-27 13:43
When shopping online I always check to see if the store belongs to eBates or Fat Wallet (depending on who has the better payback) and I always look for free shipping coupons.
#18 Rita M on 2009-07-27 13:46
Use ebates and rewards programs, and take advantage of excellent customer service.
#19 Connie on 2009-07-27 13:47
We use e-mealz to create grocery lists and meal plans for our favorite grocery stores based on their weekly sales. We have been able to cut our weekly bills in half, and we have plenty of left-overs for lunches.
#20 Heather on 2009-07-27 13:51
Like everyone else has said, wait until the item goes on sale! Otherwise, look for items that can be versatile: a 3-in-1 jacket that can be good for 3 different seasons, a sleeveless dress that can be worn with a long-sleeve shirt when the weather gets colder, etc.
#21 Sarah H (Homepage) on 2009-07-27 13:52
My favorite money-saving top is to NEVER buy anything full price. Sale racks are your best friend!
#22 Erica on 2009-07-27 13:52
My best money saving tip is to make alot of my own clothes. I try to knock things of like tops and dresses if it is within my ability.
#23 Rachel (Homepage) on 2009-07-27 14:01
I love thriftstores! I purchased some amazing vintage and designer clothing and accesories for very little money.
#24 Sandra A on 2009-07-27 14:05
My best money saving tip is *COUPONS COUPON AND MORE COUPONS*. It's great to buy in the clearance section and then use a coupon.
#25 Claudia on 2009-07-27 14:08
Write down everything you spend and learn ways to cut it back to what you need not just want. Sells clothes and household goods at consignment stores and have yearly garage sales.
#26 Rosanne on 2009-07-27 14:09
As a college student that has just started to live on her own, I've come across many tips. Of course Coupons, shopping around for the lowest price, unplugging as much as possible overnight, but a small detail that can really add up is saving spare change. Don't refuse the penny they give you back Starbucks! The other day I grabbed my coin jar and I had 7 dollars!
#27 Liz on 2009-07-27 14:11
My favorite tip is using coupons! I use coupons and combine them with Sales and promtions like double or triple coupons! I always clip from several Sunday papers, so when I find a great deal, I can stock up!
#28 Jennifer C. on 2009-07-27 14:14
I'm 24 years old and just got engaged, and we're planning on getting married next July. Running my own household and finances is pretty overwhelming, so I've become semi-obsessed with saving money and finding the best deals (one reason i frequent this site!).

1. My fiance and I are absolutely obsessed with department store clearance sections...when a store is overstocked, they try to get rid of merchandise, and that's to our advantage!

2. I devour the circulars from the Sunday paper each week and compare store deals. I also cut every coupon I could possibly be interested in using.

3. I prefer eating lunch out over dinner, because most restaurants have 11-2 or 11-4 deals on entrees that are actually pretty reasonable.

4. I'm a HUGE fan of stores like TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory that offer name-brand clothes at bargain prices. I always love Forever 21, Rue 21, Wet Seal, and Target, because the clothes are adorable but also buyable.

5. I sign up for free samples of products online, on anything from tea bags to perfume. I also occasionally get samples of perfume at the beauty counter at places like Macy's...my Ed Hardy perfume sample has lasted me over a month because I've used it sparingly. :-)
#29 Emily (Homepage) on 2009-07-27 14:27
I buy the generic, or store brand, of anything I can. Seldom is it noticably different.
#30 Patricia on 2009-07-27 14:28
My best tip is to search for sales and coupons on the web and to sign up for newsletters on sites that deal with the products you are interested in because they often will send you notices of sales, coupons, etc.
#31 Michelle H. on 2009-07-27 14:34
Our budget saving tip is to try Aldi for things like staples. Milk in our area is over one dollar cheaper than the store brand at our local grocery chain, Kroger. Cheese is several cents cheaper per block, and bread is generally cheaper as well. They also have a good selection of frozen green vegetables.
#32 Cee on 2009-07-27 14:42
changing the light bulbs at home to energy efficient which saves atleast 20% of the bill
every month
#33 Lavanya on 2009-07-27 14:45
Echoing everyone else here!

Clip coupons but really make sure it's something you'd use. Stock up on non-perishable items (pasta, rice, toilet paper, etc.) when they are buy one get one free at your supermarket.

Wal-Mart will price match almost anything, electronics from Best Buy or Target if you bring in the circular, but they won't price match Wal-Mart.com!

Target has some awesome stuff on the clerance racks, Kohl's as well usually. TJ Maxx and Marshalls are other great stores for good deals on clothing.

Get on the Victoria's Secret mailing list and get your coupon for a free pair of undies every month (and discounts on bras!) Gap, Old Navy, etc. also have great coupons they send out by email.

I've come up with lots of ideas on how to curb my spending habits, but I find that I save money best when I'm aware of where I've been spending it. I write down how much I spend and where I spend it, and I calculate a weekly total. This helps me come up with a spending "limit" for the next week, and the cycle continues. I don't beat myself up if I go over the limit, but it's nice to have a goal to aim at each week. I even have been comparing my spending this summer to my figures from last summer, just to see how much I can save this time around.

This sounds a little meticulous, but it's worth it in the long run!

**Extra tip for fellow college students:
At my university, the bookstore hands out tons of little coupon books to students, which include great deals on all the great local restaurants and pizza places. They even have coupons from hair salons. Every time I have to go out to eat, I check the book to see where I can get the best deals.

My favorite money saving tip is to USE CASH instead of cks, credit or debit cards. True, you will need to save receipts, but it will help cut down on unnecessary expenditures like you would not believe.
#36 Mary on 2009-07-27 15:11
My best money saving tip is to really think about the cost of something. Say you make $10 an hour and something cost $40 that means you have to work 4 hours to pay for that thing. A lot of times if you look at it that way you decide the thing you wanted is just not worth the work.
#37 Connie D on 2009-07-27 15:15
Match coupons to sales.
#38 Sonya Sparks (Homepage) on 2009-07-27 15:18
My best tip is to shop online and never pay full price. Google everything to make sure that you are shopping at the place with the lowest price and try to find an additional coupon code. Try to NEVER pay for shipping!
#39 Kimberly on 2009-07-27 15:19
EBAY!
#40 Kim Ramos on 2009-07-27 15:29

#41 adrienne Gordon on 2009-07-27 15:38
Check out the sales and use coupons! Also, print coupons from the internet and use coupon codes when shopping online. You can save a LOT of money that way!
#42 Esther on 2009-07-27 15:51
Best tip is to be informed!! Go to sites like www.thebudgetbabe.com and see cheap alternatives and then search for coupons online
#43 Rahila Ahmed on 2009-07-27 15:52
My fav tip is to invest money in basic pieces, NOT trends. This allows money to be saved in the long run because you have basic clothes that can be mixed and matched while lasting a long time. Another good idea, in the same vein as making investments in pieces, is to get things tailored to ensure that your clothes look not only unique, but especially great on you!
#44 Cori on 2009-07-27 16:01
Tip: Volunteer to assist a senior family member with groceries on Senior Day. They get assistance with the grocery trip and you can utilize their discount. I take my mom. She's able to get around quite fine, but I clip the coupons and we both save.
#45 Caroline Simmons on 2009-07-27 16:05
definately using coupons and signing up for the access cards to earn points at places i shop for discounts. plus, sales are always helpful!
