The Look for Less: Kate Spade Halle Wedge Pump

A reader named Anna C. asked me to help her track down a more affordable version of the Kate Spade "Halle" wedge pump, a top pick of celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe on piperlime.com. It's also apparently something of an "it" shoe among women in politics, according to the New York Times. This versatile shoe is undeniably stylish and comfortable but carries a painful $300 pricetag.

So I did a little digging around and discovered Nine West's "Smooch" Wedge Pump for $79 at piperlime.com. It's a close match in black patent leather and round toe but it has a 4" heel, so be aware.

Another option that will give you the Kate Spade look-for-less is from Jones New York. Their "Kent" wedge pumps are $59.95 at dsw.com and have a genuine leather upper and 3" heel (just like the Kate Spades, although it's tough to tell from the photos).

Lastly, we have Merona's Myka Suede Wedge Pumps featuring a 2-inch heel that's great for walking. These are just $29.99 at target.com. Take your pick!

The Look for Less: Frye Harness Boots Part III

The Frye 'Harness 12R' Boot is one of the most popular styles from this legendary brand, so it's no wonder that we've seen a steady supply of knock-offs from lesser brands. The most popular look-for-less is arguably Target's Mossimo Supply Co. 'Katherine' Leather Engineer Boots ($49.99). I bought these last season and I love them although they take a while to break in because they're made from tough albeit real leather.

If you can afford the real deal, they should last you forever with proper care. The ones shown here are $218 at nordstrom.com...

Most recently, I noticed that Payless is carrying a Frye-inspired Harness boot: It's called the 'Savannah' Harness Boot by American Eagle and it's on sale for $38.99 at payless.com, marked down from $49.99. This is a great way to test drive the look, too, see if this boot works with your current wardrobe and lifestyle, then graduate to the real deal when you get your holiday bonus!
