Baked goods like chocolate chip cookies and apple pies remind me of hanging out at my grandma's house. Also the smell of camp fires, lemonade and pine trees remind me of the summers I spent at summer camp. It was so easy to stop and smell the roses as a child!

What a great giveaway!

I was outside all of the time growing up, it was hard to get me to come in for dinner. I always noticed the smell of laundry detergent when I ran from house to house on my street. I train for half- marathons now and I always notice the same smells of laudry detergent as I pass neighborhood houses. It puts a good feeling inside of me.

The clean smell during a moderate rain and right after reminds me of my childhood, sitting in class or out in the woods with my dad (who had been deceased for nearly 6 years now) just hanging out.
#4 Tammie on 2009-12-03 14:51
Great giveaway, thanks for this! Fresh Jasmine. I lived in the middle east and we were surrounded by jasmine. I went back this summer and I was completely nostalgic when I smelled it.

Dina's Days is having a great giveaway too! BB, have you entered yet?! I posted this on facebook :-)

Honeysuckles for me, too. And blackberries. Both grew in the woods behind my best friend's house, and we used to spend all summer wandering around back there!
#9 Nikki on 2009-12-03 15:07
Great giveaway, BB! Thank you for doing this!

Right now, the smell of snow and woodsmoke in the air, and the smell that my parents old furnace made whenever the heat cycled on. I'm instantly little and excited when I smell these things again.

For the summer it's saltwater, grass, and fried clams. We spent every summer on Cape Cod.
#16 Victoria on 2009-12-03 15:20
I love lilac. It always reminds me of the bushes we had around our home when I was a child. When they were in bloom it was such a strong, comforting scent. Now I live to the south and have no lilac bushes so I have been substituting Yankee Candle....!
#17 Annie on 2009-12-03 15:21

My grandmother gave me a little bottle of chanel no. 5, her favorite, when I was ten. I stuck have the little bottle and that instantly remind me of her.

Also, I was born a Florida girl, and nothing brings back sweet summer memories like the salty ocean air and the smell of fresh shrimp for a picnic on the beach!
#22 Meghan on 2009-12-03 16:03
Rain on hot asphalt, fresh cut grass.
#23 Mindy on 2009-12-03 16:17
I spent a lot of time with my grandmother up to the age of 7, until my mom got remarried. I remember my grandmother would never really dress up, but everywhere she went she sprayed her favorite perfume, Imari by Avon. Now, everytime i smell it it takes me back to the days when i would tag along with her to race tracks, church, and even Mexico!!
#24 Vanessa on 2009-12-03 16:18
The smell of pumpkin! My mom always made fresh pumpkin bread when I was growing up.

mmm, honeysuckles, grass and wood fires!
#28 Sarah on 2009-12-03 16:49
Having also spent my childhood in Tennessee, I would have to agree with Reese in the scents she selected! There is a huge magnolia tree behind my grandma's house. Of course I also associate the smell of crayons and play doh with childhood - glad she didn't include those scents in her perfume! :-)
#29 Holly G on 2009-12-03 16:58
The smell of freshly made waffle cones reminds me of summers spent on the Oregon Coast as a kid.
#30 Nicole Q on 2009-12-03 17:07
I spent the first five years of my life in Cuba. My mother used to run a fragrance through my hair that it seemed all mothers used on their children. It was called Violetas Rusas, and was heavenly. It's a BIG memory from my childhood, that light, fresh smell of violets. Ah....
#31 Clara (Homepage) on 2009-12-03 17:16
This sounds weird, but it was a certain smell of nature that always meant to me that summer was coming. I can't pin it down to one specific smell, either. Weird.
#32 Katie on 2009-12-03 17:23
The scent that reminds me of my childhood will always be Tresor by Lancome, mainly because it was my mom's favorite perfume, but also, a few of my aunts had it as well, and it's still around til this day :-)
Good stuff :-)

The calming scent of lavenders reminds me of my hometown.
#34 L on 2009-12-03 17:31
Sandlewood... tide... and Liz Taylor's White Diamonds. My grandmother used to wear it and I remember begging her for my own bottle when I was 12 for xmas. I still have that bottle in my perfume collection today. Unfinished but so sentimental.
#35 Ashley on 2009-12-03 17:38
Wow, I really had to think about this. The first thing that came to my mind when I closed my eyes was the fresh smell of red ripe strawberries. As a child I remember we went on a field trip to a farm and we got to strawberry pick. I remember the strong sweet smell of the strawberries as if it was yesterday. I also remember sneaking a strawberry in my mouth and thinking it was the best flavor I have ever tasted. lol..wow, thank you for allowing me to recap that wonderful memory. Happy holidays ;-)
#36 Fashionista80 on 2009-12-03 17:39
It might seem pretty weird, but the scent of PineSol reminds me of my childhood. My dad, til this day, uses PineSol to clean floors. Whenenver I catch a wiff of PineSol, I'm brought back to fond and better times -- oh, what it was to be a child!
#37 vnssa906 on 2009-12-03 18:02
I love the smell of jello when it is on the stove. For some reason it reminds me of my mom. I don't even like jello now.
#38 Carolyn on 2009-12-03 18:21
We had a honeysuckle shrub (? plant? vine?) in our backyard right next to the kitchen window, and the sweet smell would always waft in, it smelled soooo good! I'd always want to go stick my nose in the flowers but there were too many bees :-(
#39 kimmie on 2009-12-03 18:39
Most definitely the smell of bug spray. I love it-- it reminds me of my summers spent at summer camp. Literally, whenever I smell it, I close my eyes and imagine myself back there. Those were the BEST memories of my life!

Roses. I lived in urban Beijing when I was young and everything was concrete except for a small rose garden outside my apartment. I'd spend hours playing in there everyday.

#52 Kate on 2009-12-03 23:24
just the smell of home. every home has its own unique smell. it's hard to describe, but when you do very rarely and accidentally find it again, it brings you back to a world you thought you have forgotten, like you have never left, then you know it's the smell of home.

Gardenias and jasmine, my mother's favorite flowers, and sandalwood
#55 Jen on 2009-12-04 01:00
I always think of my childhood whenever I smell, fresh cut grass, and honeysuckle. Nothing in the world was better then playing outside until it was getting too dark out to play. I can relate to Reese with the smell of Magnolia's because my grandparents had them surrounding their yard, I just remember the leaves everywhere and trying to climb the limbs. Childhood was an amazing time when my biggest worry was how long I would get to run around outside and chase fireflies, and I love how a scent can bring me back to that.
#56 Lacey on 2009-12-04 01:08
Childhood memories are brought back with the smell of a newly fallen rain and freshly baked bread. Living in the Seattle area with a 'stay at home', bread baking mom.
Adolescence was patchouli oil all the way.
#57 Teresa on 2009-12-04 01:49
Gardenias for me, too. They were used to
decorate the school for the annual
May Day celebration. Also the salt spray
of the Gulf of Mexico at the end of the
street, the smell of the cypress wood
panelling our house, & my mom's
Tailspsin, Diorissimo & Youth Dew
#58 Julie on 2009-12-04 07:17
The smell of cut grass reminds me of my childhood. There is just something so wonderfully peaceful about the smell of just cut grass, especially early in day, while the world is still in slow motion and everyone is just waking up. Petunias is another favorite smell from childhood -- my grandmother always planted a lot of petunias in yard. Funny how one whiff can take me back to being 7 years old, sitting on the front porch stairs with my cousins. Such a happy time!
#59 Amber Coco (Homepage) on 2009-12-04 07:38
Vaniall Fields is a scent that reminds me of my childhood. I wore it everyday in high school, and my friends still remember it!

Everytime I smell Chanel's COCO MADEMOISELLE it reminds me of when I was little. That is the one perfume my mom would always wear. Everytime we went out she would put some on. Now everytime I smell it it reminds me of those days. My mom lives in Arizona and I live in Chicago, so when I want to feel her presence I take a sniff of this elegant scent.

The yummy smell of baking bread!
#63 Maria on 2009-12-04 10:24
The scent that reminds me of my childhood is CK Obsession. It was my mom's "going out perfume" and when I smell it now, it brings me back to being a little girl, sitting on her counter, watching her apply her makeup and do her hair for her date night with my dad. :-)
#64 Diane on 2009-12-04 10:35
i loved playing in the rain when i was little...whether it was out looking for big worms or stomping in puddles...so anytime it rains, that smell brings me back. and i occasionally can't stop myself from jumping into puddles!
#65 Alice (Homepage) on 2009-12-04 11:07
Suntan lotion! Reminds me of childhood vacations and summers spent at my grandparents' lake house.
#66 chloe on 2009-12-04 11:08
Weirdly enough, hospitals and Ralph Lauren cologne. My dad wore Ralph Lauren and it always reminds me of him. And my mom worked in the ER on the evening shift and after my dad had tucked me in and I had fallen asleep, my mom would always come in to kiss me goodnight when she got off work. Sometimes I would wake up and she would smell like the hospital so that smell has always had good feelings for me.
#67 Sara on 2009-12-04 11:13

#72 Ayla on 2009-12-04 13:10
My grandma's freshed baked cookies. I remember having a picnic of cookies and lemonade underneath the weeping willow in the yard with my grandma. We would dress in her jewels and hats and be ladies and make up stories about the ball we were at last night!! Nostalgia!

Whenever I smell plain old orange colored Dial soap, I think of my Grandparents' house. I spent most of my elementary school years there and the smell really takes me back.

The smell of ripe mangoes reminds me of summer at my parent's place
#75 KK on 2009-12-04 14:27
My favorite place to be as a child was at Disney World - especially Blizzard Beach! There is a distinct "Disney smell" that is part water ride chlorine part Florida and part wood scent (people who have been there will know what I'm talking about!) Once in a while I'll smell it at home and remember being there :-)
#76 Jo on 2009-12-04 14:51
Jessica Mclintock perfume reminds me of my mom. This is the only perfume i can remember her wearing. When I was little I liked to watch her getting ready for things whether it was a date with my dad or going out for a dinner with family. She would put on a couple of sprays of perfume and it would float around the house after her as she prepared for the evening. It seemed so glamorous at the time, I will always associate that scent with my mom.
#77 Theresa (Homepage) on 2009-12-04 16:56
Magnolia from my parent's backyard.

Coppertone sunblock always reminds me of my childhood on the beach. :-D
#79 Lisa on 2009-12-04 18:05
I would have to say baby powder oil because my mother use to cover me and my brother with regular baby powder during the summers to keep cool. Everytime I smell baby powder I remember my mom and childhood experiences.
#80 Teresa on 2009-12-04 18:05
My high school sweetheart (and now my Husband) would always get me samples of Chanel Chance perfume from the department stores when we were dating. It makes me think back to when we first started dating.

Thanks for the entry.

There are so many! Salty ocean air, lilacs, my grandmother's homemade pasta sauce. I grew up on the coast in a predominantly Sicilian-American community, and the smells are something you never forget.
#88 Kristi on 2009-12-07 22:42
When I was a child, I loved vanilla scents, but other than that, my mother was always cooking stockfish, which is actually a horrible smell. But, I didn't even realize that as a child.
#89 Michelle on 2009-12-09 13:13
I too grew up in Tennessee and am excited to see how Reese interpreted the smell of magnolias and peach blossoms.

The smell I attribute most with my childhood though is the vibrant smell of freshly brewed orange tea and peanut butter. I used to spend every afternoon with my grandmother and she would always make us iced tea and peanut butter crackers as a snack. Years later, I smelled a lip gloss with that same orangey smell and it took my right back there to her kitchen.
