BCBG Max Azria Fall 2010 Runway Notes

BCBG Max Azria presented a fluid, modern collection for Fall 2010 consisting of dresses, wrap vests and tunic tops layered over lightweight long sleeve tees and mostly white opaque tights, in a muted palette of navy, gray and black with the occasional slice of sporty yellow or blue. Everything was subtle and sophisticated, including the graphic prints, sequined black dresses and occasional abstract embellishments. Elastic belts, oversized leather clutches and closed-toe platform ankle boots added some structure.

It was beautiful and the fabrics had great movement on the catwalk but I was surprised by how somber and minimalist it felt for this youthful brand. While none of the individual pieces stood out as contenders for fast-fashion-knockoffs, I can definitely see the colorblocking trend interpretted at lower price points. Another thing we budget conscious fashionistas can do is layer short sleeve tops, tunics and dresses over fitted long sleeve cotton tees for a BCBG Max Azria look for less.

What do you think? Are you inspired or bored by this collection?

I think the minimalism is refreshing. After the bombardment of florals and camo and ruffles etc, it's nice to know that simplicity is still "in"!

I'm sorta in love with the first white and grey dress...and the grey and navy dress over the sheer long sleeved T-shirt in the third row. I doubt the cuts will translate well over onto my body but i love how effortless and simple these looks are!

Max can do little wrong in my book. I love color blocking, and everything looks easy to wear. But who can pull off white tights? Love how it looks on the models, hope it won't be a fashion trend!

Very interesting observation. I haven't worn white tights since 1st grade but I'd love to give it a try again in an adult, sophisticated sort of way. We shall see!

I think that anybody can really pull off white tights if they tried. While there are those that think that girls shouldn't be wearing them past the age of 6, I disagree. I think that it adds a very classy touch to an otherwise, overtly sexualized world.

(Re-)Captures a little bit of that lost innocence so to speak.

I went through their collection on style.com and they are right on target with those color block, unstructured pieces! They are one of my favorite designer houses. I so love them! I want everything!
