3 Ways to Wear: Nude Pumps

How to Wear Nude Pumps

Following yesterday's post about 10 nude pumps under $100, many of you said you loved the look but weren't sure how to wear this style of shoe. I think reader Texnyqueen said it best when she commented, "You can wear nude pumps just like black pumps - with everything!" Ok, I added the exclamation point—but it's so true! Nude pumps are super versatile. To prove my point, I couldn't resist showing you three ways that I've personally worn my nude pumps by Nine West, which I purchased from 6pm.com for just $10.27 plus shipping (as seen here).

Here goes:

1. Wear your nude pumps with a pencil skirt and feminine top. Pumps and pencil skirts are a match made in heaven. On top? Wear whatever you like! (What I'm Wearing: Zac Posen for Target pencil skirt, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls ruffle front camisole, and BCBG via Marshalls quilted clutch)

2. Pair nude pumps with a brightly colored dress. While nude pumps will look equally at home with this season's nude hues (see this look on Kelly Ripa) or bold brights (see this look on Molly Sims), I like to wear mine with a more vibrant dress because of my pale complexion. But that's just me! Experiment, you can't lose. (What I'm Wearing: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls dress, Nine West lace purse)

3. Take a cue from Victoria Beckham and rock your nude pumps with this season's cargos and a boyfriend blazer. (What I'm Wearing: Forever 21 tee, Express blazer and my boyfriend's AE shorts. Shhh don't tell him I raided his closet!)

How do you wear your nude pumps?

I like these. Your really good at putting together stylish and uncomplicated looks.

The price on those shoes are ridiculous! I think I really need to check out this 6pm.

LOVE the cobalt blue! =) also, where is your white clutch in the first pic from? so cute!

BCBG via Marshalls. It's got a gold chain strap so you can carry it as a purse or tuck inside and hold as a clutch.

I love all 3 looks...wished i got the bargain because i love the pumps.
How do you know which shade of nude is best for your skin type? Should it be lighter/darker or the same color as your skin color?? Also what type of nude shoe works best to make your legs and ankles look slimmer? would a gladiator heel work? or a mary jane pump?

I've always wondered about this too. Nude pumps tend to come in "bone" or something similar; would a tan or taupe shoe compliment tan skin and still be considered a nude shoe?

LOVE the shoes! How do they fit (are they true to size)and what color is that? I just ordered the orange, but am not sure which color yours are. They come in so many colors!

And I love your sense of style.

I got the nude pumps too! I saw your post early enough and luckily they still had my size! I love them, they are so versatile. I wore them with a pink body con ruffled skirt, taupe satin tank and my black boyfriend blazer, similar to your #1 outfit, so cute!

You are so chic, I can't stand it! Haha, that first outfit is just fabulous. I'm a little sad though, I went to Kohls and tried on that beautiful blue dress and it fit weirdly on me (much too figure-hugging in the butt area; which was oh-so inappropriate when it comes to my shakira-esque rear!).

I love that ruffle top. Must look for it. And the Express blazer! I was always worried their blazers would be too boxy or big in the shoulders, but my fears have been put to rest after seeing how great it looks on you. I'm sold on the nude pumps.

you look great! and this kind of post gives your legions of loyal followers good ideas for creative, real-life dressing. more, please!

I've been looking for a great pair of nude pumps for a while now and I keep going back to the ine West Rocha, but am unhappy with their color of "nude". What Nine West shoes are you wearing? Are they the Rocha or they look like they might be the Nadia? HELP!
#19 Nicole on 2010-05-07 10:02 (Reply)
I'm wearing the Rocha, nice shape and slight platform.

This trend is so funny to me. Ballroom dancers have been wearing nude pumps for decades to extend the leg line. Looks like the rest of the world caught on ;-)

Budget babe, what size are you wearing for LC's blue ruffle dress? I'm 5'3, 115 lbs, do you think a 4 would be too big on me?
#21 Anon on 2010-05-07 12:00 (Reply)
If it helps, I'm about your size (5'2", 122lbs) and I bought a dress from the LC collection (not the blue one above but a different one) in a 4.

Love these looks! I just LOVE the black chain bracelet you're wearing in looks 2 &3. Can you tell us more about it--brand and where you got it?
#22 Emily (Homepage) on 2010-05-07 12:53 (Reply)
My bracelet is by Juko jewelry, I got it on Gilt Fuse (which recently shut down) for something like $30 (?) Unfortunately I can't find anything about Juko jewelry online. It can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around the wrist as a bracelet. I love it and wear it with everything. If I find something similar, I'll let you guys know :-)

I have nude pumps from hush puppies and I want to wear them with a littly burgundy/mauve cocktail dress... what colour should my clutch be? Can I hold a black one? Would that be too dark on top?
Thanks!!
