Edition Georges Chakra Spring Summer 2011 Runway Show

On September 10, I attended renowned couturier Georges Chakra's Spring/Summer 2011 ready-to-wear collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. I can honestly say I've never seen so many (nearly 50!) stunning dresses in one place, from body-con mini dresses to floor-length chiffon gowns. Models were styled with soft yet radiant makeup and wind-swept hair that looked tousled by a sea breeze. The colors evoked the ocean for me as well, from glistening aquas to sandy neutrals. It was hard to pick a favorite but a series of gemstone-hued ombre chiffon dresses, ivory charmeuse long sleeve biaz gown with crystal beading on the shoulders and an asymmetrical draped gold jersey gown with Lucite beaded necklace all momentarily took my breath away.

More photos and show notes after the jump.

Here are the show notes:

"Chakra's designs celebrate the woman's body, and for the summer 2011 collection, the designer emphasized and sculpted the female form by surrounding it with a set of satin straps - sometimes parallel, other times crisscrossed - transforming his creations into glamorous and extremely contemporary looks.

From show stopping long satin gowns with sequined or glittered straps, to little black or white dresses suitable for a dinner in town or a summer cocktail party, Chakra's designs highlight the architecture of the body and are built to allow freedom of movement.

Chakra mixes bold colors with neutrals, going from blue lagoon, coral, green-yellow chartreuse and violet amethyst to nude tones and golden shades, all fading away in daiphanous chiffon. The white mixed with transparency is dazzling. In a masterful touch, Georges Chakra also has liquid lame draped jersey dresses in both steel and bronze colors for an ultra sexy statement.

The Georges Chakra Spring/Summer 2011 collection can be summed up in three words: Modern, elegant and glamorous."

Celebrity guests included Kelly Rowland, who I spotted sitting in the front row wearing all-white.
