Milly Spring Summer 2011 Runway Show

On September 15, I attended the Milly Spring/Summer 2011 runway show held at the Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. The inspiration for the collection was famed art collector Peggy Guggenheim, which designer Michelle Smith expressed with an eclectic mix of patterns, prints and pieces that came together with unexpected glamor and levity. Accessories like turbans, oversized sunglasses and hats also gave a nod to Guggenheim as muse, as did bohemian prints mixed with ladylike separates, cropped jackets and prim pumps. I loved it all, from the preppy-meets-global color palette (give me apple green, navy and white any day and I'm a happy camper) to the Alexander Calder-inspired mobile which decorated the runway, the perfect touch! The delicious handbags and statement jewelry pieces were thoughtfully incorporated yet could totally work beyond the runway. My kind of fashion.

Here are the show notes:

"Peggy Guggenheim serves as Smith's inspiration for spring, setting the tone for an eccentric mix of feminine florals, bold geometrics and tribal elements. Michelle's collection features an emphasis on proportion and contrasts; full, round skirts with slender bodices, cropped jackets with long skits and trousers, slim fitted sheath dresses paired with statement coats.

The Milly Handbag collection features rich, full grain leathers such as soft, tumbled nappa lamb, shiny goatskin and glossy patent. Resin tortoise chains and custom-made hardware detail the assortment of bold new styles. Highlights include the Sophia handbag in shrunken nappa with tortoise chain strap, and the signature Milly handbag, trimmed with vachetta leather and button hardware, a wink to Milly's read-to-wear heritage.

Milly Jewelry features chunky tribal-inspired necklaces in wood and agate, rhinestone encrusted bracelets and necklaces in chain and rope, as well as geometric pieces mixing resin, wood and gold.

'Accomplished, well-traveled and stylishly eccentric, Peggy Guggenheim has inspired me this season with alluring and unexpected combinations of pattern, texture and color.'"

Hi Budget Babe! Thank you so much for checking out LL4L. I hope you saw a few things you like, and that you continue reading in the future!

I love Milly! I especially like the white, navy, and kelly green outfit shown above. Such a classic color combination. Did you go to the Milly sample sale this week in NYC? I really wanted to go but unfortunately I couldn't get out of work on time to make it to the sale!

The green one looks very refreshing. You're so lucky you got to go to a runway show! Wow! You did it.

What's amazing about this collection is that it's just a mix of everything, much like art.

This collection reminds me very much of my eccentric teenage years in the Village... when I went from one thrift shop to the next just to get to look... today u can find a pair of flaired jeans at any store... these days I still enjoy the look yet keep it alot more simple.
