Off the Rack: November Offerings at New York & Company

Earlier this week I checked out the latest offerings at New York & Company, a store I often overlook but it's a budget babe's "secret weapon" if you know what to look for (and what to avoid!).

This trip turned up lots of great outerwear options, like a tiered-hem wool trench ($149.95) inspired by Burberry and a luxe-looking faux shearling aviator jacket ($129.95 in-store, sold out online). Best part: All outerwear's on sale buy one, get one half off!

Other highlights included all-over sequin skirts, tanks and cardigans, veeeery popular right now for the holiday party season. New York & Company's options looked relatively luxe and carried a far lower pricetag than what you'd pay elsewhere. I was also loving the infinity or loop scarves and faux-fur muffs. Low-points for me personally had to be the handbags which look cheap for the most part. This area needs improvement.

Scroll down for lots more photos. Anything catch your eye?

Featured on vogue.com as one of their "most wanted" for fall

I'm not sure how warm this coat would be but it definitely looked good. I'm wearing a size XS.

This is the coat with the tiered ruffle bottom, Express has a version of this coat too. It's inspired by Burberry. Love it, especially in this green color. I tried on a size S to accommodate chunky sweaters and it fit nicely.

Be careful buying their cardigans. I worked there for almost two years, and they consistently warp after the first wash, even if you hand-wash and line-dry.

I totally avoid NY&C for quality reasons. I've never bought anything from there that didn't rip, shrink, warp, or fade after the first washing. It all looks great in pictures but is cheap cheap CHEAP.

thanks for the headsup. I was tempted to go check out the ruffle cardigan and the sequin one, but I'll keep my distance.

I have totally had that problem. I've had them stretch out, shrink, develop holes and just loose their shape. Such a bummer

funny i worked there too and remember that being a problem!

Besides the jacket and coat you tried on, I love the outfits on the two mannequins that are just upper torsos (11th picture).

But, I definitely won't be heading to NY&C for anything. I've been victim to HORRIBLE customer service at both the locations near me and the managers did nothing to assuage the situation. So, they won't be seeing me. And now I will go lust over your H&M post again!

Funny you should say that about thier customer service, I feel the same way. I have had the most AWFUL service at two different locations, they were rude, not attentive at all, and one girl completely ignored us all together while she was ringing us up!
My sisters have also had bad experiences there, which is a shame, bc they both have found nice things there.. I really stay away from there now.

Lots of pretty stuff! I always forget about NY&Co too, I'll have to check it out.

Funny. I alway hear that people have problems with NY&C stuff. I shop there a lot and I can think of one top that did not hold up. It really stretched out. Other than that, my stuff has held up well. I like that they are reasonably priced and have tall pants.

I have always had pretty good luck there. I got the ruffled cardigan and it looks very nice. I'm not fond of the purses though.

They have a ruffled front cardigan just like the ones in the first picture at forever21 for half the cost. And since both stores aren't really known for their quality, why not get it for a lot less?

I, too, am often disappointed with NYCo's quality. Their pants are always too short for me too, and I'm only 5'6''.

I want to know where you got your handbag.

I second that on the handbag! Love a great looking hobo bag!

I was going to ask about your bag too. I have been looking for a great slouchy hobo bag like yours for a long time!

Thx for the compliments on the bag, it's by Linea Pelle via ideeli.com.

Did the sequin shirts have sequins on the back too? Or just the front?

Just the front.

I've had the same experience with their quality, but for something like a sequin top that I'll only wear a couple times anyways I might wait until sale time and try it out. :-)

I've always been a huge fan of New York & Company. Whenever my mom has time to shop, she always manages to bring at least 2 items from them.

I definitely agree with the quality and customer issues that others have brought up. My other complaint is yes they have numerous coupons that they send out but there are always so many different restrictions on them that its not even worth my time to bother popping in.

I almost bought that shearling jacket the other day until I actually felt the material. It felt so cheap and rugged. The gray material wasn't soft at all. I find that most things in their stores are great looking from far away but when you get close up they really do look cheesy and cheap - especially the handbags!

I like NY&co and I have found some great things there. My complaint is that they need a pettie line. I have found that the sizing is just too big and too long on my frame. Its frustrating because I like the cardigans and shirts I find there but they are too big. :o(

That camel coat is to die for! If only we had a NY&Co ghere in Canada :-(

you can order it online! :-)

I purchased lots of accessories at NY&Co yesterday. Have never purchased any of their clothes (and it sounds like I shouldn't!).

If you have a Facebook account, "Like" their page. I got a further 20% off with a code via my cell phone.
