My favorite treatment for dry skin is Melaleuca's Renew lotion. It's amazing! But Carmex can't be beat for dry lips!
#1 Kira on 2011-01-24 12:56
It's obvious but keep up with puuting on lotion everyday - I'm loving anything by Burts Bees at the moment! Also, as tempting as it is to take super hot showers when it's cold out I try to keep them reasonably warm because super hot showers will dry out skin.
#2 Vanessa on 2011-01-24 13:02
I swear by Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Everyday after a shower and it works like a charm!
#3 Steff on 2011-01-24 13:11
Lotion everyday right after taking a shower! Also, drink plenty of liquids to keep yourself hydrated, since there's hardly any moisture in the air!
#4 Nicole on 2011-01-24 13:11
Carmex is my fav...I love the tingle! I get dry skin on my hands during the winter. I mix olive oil and sugar to scrub away dead skin, slather my hands in petroleum jelly, and cover with old socks. Does the trick every time!
#5 Megan on 2011-01-24 13:12
Lots of Aveeno's lotions. Love the smell.
#6 Whitney Archer on 2011-01-24 13:13
My number 1 beauty tip: I apply a dash of pure aloe vera oil to my extremely dry areas - elbows, knees, cracked feet and it's a miracle worker, especially during extreme winter temperatures. Works and how! ;-)
#7 Ak2000 on 2011-01-24 13:15
I have Carmex lip stuff in every purse, vehicle, and gym bag that I use so that I'm never without it.

When skin has gotten too dry to use regular lotion, I've always used olive oil to great success.
#8 Naomi on 2011-01-24 13:16
Lather some Aquaphor on my hands before going to bed.
#9 Mala on 2011-01-24 13:19

Baby oil after showering and aquaphor for tough dry patches!
#11 CC on 2011-01-24 13:20
My eyes bugged out of my head when I saw this giveaway because I LOVE Carmex products.

I don't normally get dry skin in the winter, but I do get dry lips and the Carmex Moisture Plus is my absolute favorite product. I currently have one in my purse, one on my nightstand, one in my car, and one on my desk at work. LOVE it.
#12 Kim D. on 2011-01-24 13:25
Lotion, every day, right out of the shower. And in the dead of winter, I usually shower only every other day. I'm a big fan of Nivea, my mom used it and I use it! As a kid growing up in Alaska, everyone always carried around their Carmex lip balm to help with chapped lips and skin.
#13 Jessica on 2011-01-24 13:27
My favourite tip for fighting dry skin is to lightly apply some baby oil while in the shower. I just rub a few drops in carefully so I don't make the floor slippery. I find doing it in the shower helps it absorb better and I don't feel so greasy afterward.
#14 Samantha M. on 2011-01-24 13:29
Turn the heat down in the shower, gently pat skin dry and put the lotion on immediately. If you have dry patches hit them up with some hrydocortisone cream.
#15 Jody (Homepage) on 2011-01-24 13:30
I love Carmex products! To battle the winter I use carmex morning, noon, and before I go to bed. I also use a thick body lotion after showering (like the new Lubiderm!)
#16 Kelsey P. on 2011-01-24 13:33
Lots and lots of water!
#17 Erin L. on 2011-01-24 13:41
i know this might sound random - but wearing my uggs without socks in this cold mn winter has helped my normally dry cracked heels so much!!

Cocoa butter in elbows, knees, and feet but I use the original Carmex all throughout the day on my lips!
#21 Olga on 2011-01-24 13:58
I put lotion on directly after I get out of the shower. I'm newly in love with Olay Ultra Moisture lotion. I also try to put some lotion next to every sink in the house so that I can moisturize after washing my hands.
#22 Katie on 2011-01-24 14:04
I drink tons of water and always keep lotion and Carmex in my purse!
#23 Samantha Bender (Homepage) on 2011-01-24 14:07
Body Butter from is great. I recommend the hemp formulation for winter as it is highly emollient but not sticky or goey.
#24 Reese on 2011-01-24 14:12
My favorite winter trick is to use vaseline to remove my makeup. It gets everything off while moisturizing my face. :-)
#25 Tiffany on 2011-01-24 14:12
To avoid dry, itchy skin, I lather myself with Johnson & Johnson gel baby oil. It absorbs quickly without a greasy feeling. If I'm in a hurry, I lather up with Lubriderm lotion, a thick, moisturizing formula that doesn't feel greasy either.
#26 Yari on 2011-01-24 14:14
I put baby oil on while I'm in the shower. The water keeps me from being too greasy when I get out while still doing the job.
#27 Jenn (Homepage) on 2011-01-24 14:20
I mix a little baby oil with my moisturizer. It works wonders!
#28 Valerie on 2011-01-24 14:34
My fave way to fight winter dryness is to slather on baby oil, as soon as I hop out the shower- while my skin is still wet- to seal in the moisture. Then I apply Lotion.
#29 FranIam on 2011-01-24 14:36
Lots and lots of lotion!
#30 Susan G on 2011-01-24 14:43
Aquaphor on hands, feet and elbows before bed every night!
#31 Erin on 2011-01-24 14:43
I've been keeping a little bottle of lotion from Bath & Body Works on my desk at work. I just use that randomly throughout the day (especially if I've just washed my hands) to them smooth
#32 Amy on 2011-01-24 14:44
I learned this tip a while back and am amazed how well it works for dry, cracked feet. Use a stridex pad to wipe along the whole bottom of the foot, then apply eucerin out of the jar, Put your socks on and sleep in them all night. You will wake up with soft smooth feet! Its absolutely amazing!
#33 cindy champion on 2011-01-24 14:46
use jojoba oil as a moisturizer for my face, body and hair. absorbs wonderfully and isn't greasy at all.
#34 lise on 2011-01-24 14:49
I like to exfoliate my lips in the shower before I put on my Carmex (excited about THIS giveaway!) preferably with sugar, but if I forget to take some into shower with me I'll use my facial exfolliant!
#35 danielle on 2011-01-24 14:53
Applying lotion right out of the shower while your still damp help keeps moisture in. Also, Carmex lip balms in the tube stashed everywhere!
#36 Cassie on 2011-01-24 14:57
use a humidifier to help keep moisture in the air , good for skin and wood furniture
#37 Dave Levin (Homepage) on 2011-01-24 14:59
In order to retain my healthy skin even during winter, I always apply lotion to my face immediately after I shower approximately 30 seconds after to keep in moisture.
#38 Christine on 2011-01-24 15:02
I slather my skin with lotion while it's still damp - the lotion absorbs better that way and you use less!
#39 Bekah on 2011-01-24 15:06
I put on lotion every day after I shower. I use Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion. It's really for your face, but I like to use it as a body lotion too because it's light, not greasy or heavy.

The heels of my feet get really dry and cracked so at night I smother them in Medline Remedy Skin Repair Cream and then put on socks. Medline lotion is really creamy and luxurious and it smells great!
#40 Nikki (Homepage) on 2011-01-24 15:08

After I shower I use Kukui oil to seal in the moisture and prevent dry skin.
#45 Kelly on 2011-01-24 15:15
My treatment for dry skin is to once a week use honey and brown sugar to exfoliate. It leaves my skin super soft! After I rinse i just lather on lotion while my skin is damp, it works for me =)
#46 Steph on 2011-01-24 15:18

#57 Karen on 2011-01-24 15:47
I drink lots of water and use carmex on my lips. Right after my showers which is every other day during winter months, I apply neutrigena (spelling) moistuizing lotion on my body and face. It is the only lotion that works during the winter months. I get very dry skin and itch very badly if I dont use this lotion.
#58 Yeliz Contreras on 2011-01-24 15:51
Drinking lots of water, lotion after I shower and when I wake up, and carmex or vaseline for lips, but NO chapstick

#61 Jeana on 2011-01-24 16:15
I have a problem with DRY scalp in the winter time. I take mayo with veggie oil warm a bit up in the microwave( I know it sounds gross). I massage it on my scalp & leave it on for about 15mins. I wash with Mane & Tail shampoo a few times to get the smell and oil out. I use a leave in conditioner ONLY if my hair feels "straw like." I usually have silky smooth, baby soft hair!
#62 Jessie Pinkul on 2011-01-24 16:18
Hydration and cetaphil lotion :-).
#63 helene on 2011-01-24 16:21
I drink more water than usual and put on lotion in the morning and at night before bed. And throughout the year I'm addicted to chapstick..but I do buy extra during the winter!

#67 Kim on 2011-01-24 16:34
I like to take oil baths in the winter. Just put a few drops of your favorite oil (I love the smell of almond oil) in the bathtub and soak for about an hour! It will make your skin feel amazing!
#68 Janelle on 2011-01-24 16:34
This isn't really a secret, but something I picked up this year as it's my first winter wearing a wedding ring and band. My skin under the rings was becoming very dry and irritated -- so I switched them up, the ring on my right hand and the band on the left. This helps avoid rubbing which increases the irritation. I also use hydro-cortisone cream on the finger if it's getting particularly dry. But separating the rings has made a big difference!
#69 Adrienne on 2011-01-24 16:35
Exfoliate in the shower, paying special attention to heels, knees and elbows. Shower gloves are great for all areas, and use a pumice stome for feet. A really hot shower can be too drying - so watch the temp! Pat dry - don't rub, and while skin is still moist, apply your favorite moisturizer. Baby oil gel is a great inexpensive winter fix, and is also inexpensive and a tube lasts a long time. And Carmex has always been the best fix for lips - I even apply it with my lipstick.
#70 Melanie on 2011-01-24 16:36
I drink lots of water and use vasaline as lip balm
#71 Ming on 2011-01-24 16:37
Moisturize after a shower.
#72 Phoebe on 2011-01-24 16:52
I have dry skin as it is, so in the winter time it gets a bit worse. I resort to increasing my water intake, slathering on moisturizer/body oil after a shower, and for chapped lip emergencies drop a chapstick in every bag you own!
#73 Henna on 2011-01-24 17:04
CHAPSTICK/CARMEX & LOTION! I always put lotion on my feet at night and then put socks on. It keeps me feet feeling moisturized all day long!

#81 Ann Marie on 2011-01-24 17:42

#87 lauren on 2011-01-24 18:39
I'll use any super moisture body lotion right after shower every night! Then put on over knee socks (Now they have low compression socks to help blood circulation better at night!). So I'll wake up in the morning with ultra soft feet, and slim/ light feelings legs!

#89 thisizkim on 2011-01-24 18:51
I recently started using Bio Oil on my face and after a week can tell a huge difference.

At night after I take a shower, I slather Vaseline all over my feet and then put on socks...helps tremendously with the dry feet!
#90 Manda O. on 2011-01-24 18:52
I absolutely slather on Vaseline after a shower at night - it leaves my skin feeling so soft in the morning, my skin never peels, and I'm not itchy anymore!
#91 Sara B. on 2011-01-24 19:00
Ok, carmex on my lips for real, then vaseline aloe lotion after showering every night. finishing off with laneige water based face mask every evening...love that stuff!
#92 Sonja on 2011-01-24 19:03
VASELINE! Vaseline is so good for any dry spots and it is such a lifesaver.
#93 valerie on 2011-01-24 19:04
since I have extremely dry skin (plus eczema), I'm always on the lookout for the next best way to combat dry winter skin. What works for me: making sure I take cooler, shorter showers and immediately moisturizing with some avocado oil. For really dry flaky skin, a layer of exfoliant (glycoylic acid or lactic acid) under a heavy moisturizer does wonders.
#94 c on 2011-01-24 19:12
I love to use the Buffy Bar from Lush in the shower. It does a great job of moisturizing my skin while also smelling great!
#95 Katie on 2011-01-24 19:21
Vitamin E Oil! Or any moisturizing oil, really. The trick to apply it as thickly as you like just before getting in the shower, then washing your face. When you get out, your face will be soft and moisturized without the ickiness of oil.
#96 Ana on 2011-01-24 19:24
I use Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash with Shea Butter in the shower every morning and it is AMAZING! For extra-dry days, I keep a travel bottle of citrus-scented lotion with me in my purse and in my desk at work. In emergencies where I've run out of lotion, I use my Burt's Bees lip balm on dry skin patches and rub it in. Works like a charm!

I especially love it when I go snowboarding because my lips get especially chapped when your out in the snow with the wind blowing in your face, so I always have a tube of CARMEX in my snowboarding pants, and apply it regularly! It works great and lasts a long time!

For the horrid cracked lip season - I trust Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 to keep me kissable for Valentine's Day and my hubby's birthday. A bit of a splurge but a must when we are in split lip season in MN.

I also use Bag Balm - (I swear this can has lasted for 2 years and isn't even half gone after using it for me and my 1 year old). Is great for elbows, knees, feet and the occasional lip emergency. Awfully minty though!

For my face, i like to soak cotton pads with toner and then leaving them on my face for ten minutes, then putting on cream and gently wrap my face with clear plastic wrap.. then take a relaxing nap. My face is always left smooth, soft and hydrated haha.

For the rest of the body, i'd put lotion on and then wrap it with clear plastic wrap also... works miracles for me!

MANY THINGS WORKS, AND SOME WORK ON SOME PPL BETTER THAN OTHERS. THE TRICK IS TO FIND OUT WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU. #1 DRINK WATER AND LOTS OF IT. FOR ME I USE CARMAX AND BURT'S BEESWAX LIP BALM FOR MY LIPS ALL DAY LONG AND AT NITE (THIS WILL SEEM SILLY BUT WORKS) I USE IT AFTER A SHOWER ON MY CUTICLES AND ON MY TOES.U GET A NICE TINGLE. THEN I APPLY A MIXTURE OF A GOOD LOTION WITH OLIVE OIL. ALL OVER FEET, LEGS, ELBOWS, HANDS. THEN COVER WITH SOCKS AND HECK IF U DONT HAVE GLOVES, USE ANOTHER PAIR OF OF SOCKS LIKE I DO. AS FOR TOUGHER DRY SPOTS, YOU CAN MAKE UR ON REMEDIES FROM THINGS U HAVE RIGHT IN YOUR HOME, U DONT HAVE TO SPEND TONS OF MONEY. TAKE SUGAR AND OLIVE OIL OR TO SAVE A BUCK OR 2, USE BABY OIL. MASSAGE INTO THE REALLY ROUGH SPOTS AND RINSE OFF AND PUT LOTION ON RIGHT AFTER THAT. IT WILL FEEL BABY SOFT. BUT REGARDLESS, UR LIPS ARE IMPORTANT TOO. DONT WAIT FOR THEM TO GET DRY, PUT UR FAVORITE PRODUCT ON EVERY MINUTE U THINK ABOUT IT. BE IT BEESWAX, CHAPSTICK, CARMAX OR UR FAVORITE ONE.

I always use body lotion after a shower and faithfully use a moisturizer on my face. Of course I always wear gloves in the cold weather & hand lotion. For my lips, I use lip balm or in a pinch, if I'm out...I use vaseline.
#125 Carol B on 2011-01-25 03:55
Lots of Aquaphor on my hands last thing at night and I always have my chapstick in my pocket with me!

MOISTURIZE!!!!Whatever you have no matter how inexpensive or expensive THE most Important thing to remember is to keep your skin MOIST Period!!!
In Florida we have too much with the Humidity in the summer and in the winter it is too dry..MOISTURIZE!!!
#127 Donna on 2011-01-25 09:04
Vaseline and moisterization. For hands, ALWAYS wear gloves, and for feet wear socks, do this right after you moisterize. I always rcommend this to everyone and it works.

Exfoliate...exfoliate...exfoliate.
#129 Audra on 2011-01-25 09:27
My number one tip for dry winter skin is exfoliate and vaseline! It's simple, clean, and fragrance free! It can be used on any part of the body and it doesn't have a lot of alcohol so it doesn't dry out skin! A lot of lotions do have alcohol and you have to keep reapplying!

In Utah it was super cold and I was on accutane so vaseline and scrubbing were life savers!

Haven't found the magic formula for my body but for my face I ABSOLUTELY SWEAR BY Ponds Cold Cream. NOTHING comes even remotely close and the price can't be beat! For my lips, Carmex, of course!!
#131 Angel on 2011-01-25 10:53
I drink lots of liquids, and spritz my face with a hydrating mist when it feels dry, especially after applying makeup (but before mascara!).
#132 monica on 2011-01-25 11:43
Drink lots of water, eat more fruits and use a good body oil right after the shower....
#133 bonafidelatina on 2011-01-25 11:57

#134 Felisha on 2011-01-25 12:07
One word: VASELINE.
#135 Shannon (Homepage) on 2011-01-25 12:14
I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture fragrance free lotion on my hands, which get really dry at my office.
#136 Angela (Homepage) on 2011-01-25 12:35
The best thing I use for dry skin and lips is Lansinoh Cream. Even though it is a breast cream, it works amazing! Especially for my lips! Everyone should try it!
#137 Stefanie (Homepage) on 2011-01-25 12:42
I use regular Vaseline on very dry spots on my face and/or body. It always works for me and starts to heal!
#138 janet <3 on 2011-01-25 13:01
The best way to beat dry skin is to drink lots and lots of water!
#139 Kristy on 2011-01-25 13:06
Invest in a humidifier.
#140 Nikki on 2011-01-25 13:57
My trick it to use baby oil right after my shower, before I towel off. I rub it in before, so it's not greasy feeling and it absorbs better. Then after I towel off, I'm super comfortable!
#141 Franci on 2011-01-25 14:03
My skin only gets dry on my face so i love using Aveeno Ultra-Calming lotion.
#142 Giselle on 2011-01-25 14:06
exfoliating dead skin in the shower followed by using a thick cream lotion right after. You need to get rid of the dead skin first, then deep moisturize the new fresh layer!
#143 ayla on 2011-01-25 14:13
I just found Vaseline Cocoa Butter Gel Oil in a plastic container at CVS. This has saved my skin! It's so awesome.
The other item that everyone must have is Rosebud Salve. It's awesome for lips, cuticles, etc.
#144 KGP on 2011-01-25 14:36
My favorite cure for dry winter skin is creamy baby oil (any brand will do). After a hot shower I rub the problem areas (hands, feet, elbows...anywhere my skin is especially dry) down with the creamy baby oil while my skin is still damp (not dry and not with water still beaded on it.) Then i follow up with baby lotion. Currently I'm using both creamy baby oil and lotion that contain cocoa butter for an even smoother and softer feel. My hands get exceptionally dry during winter so I always carry around a purse sized bottle which i refill with the creamy baby oil that way I can reapply after i wash my hands throughout the day...

For my face I use moisturizer 2 times a day...once after I shower, and then again after i wash my face before bed.

For my lips I have a pot of Carmex in my car and that saves me!! I've recently invested in the Carmex Moisture Plus lip balm and I have one in ever place imaginable (purse, car, bedroom, bathroom, my boyfriends house and car) I tend to misplace my lip balms so I keep them everywhere so I always have one =)
#145 Bianca on 2011-01-25 14:48
I mix a little Birch Oil into my lotion and apply after every shower. I also love Olay night moisturizer and switch between Carmex, Blistex and Vasoline for my lips.
#146 Brittany on 2011-01-25 15:13
My number one beauty tip for dry winter skin is moisturizer, moisturizer, moisturizer! I put it on every morning after I shower and sometimes at night after I wash my face. It helps my skin feel fresh and not dry. Also, I wear a lot of Carmex to keep my lips moisturized!
#147 Katherine Gonzales on 2011-01-25 16:07
I just got my husband to start putting Aquaphor on his hands then to wear gloves. His hands are really rough and it's really helping. For me though, what shows the most when during the cold season is my chapped lips. So I have to remind myself to exfoliate them. I use the one from Bath and Body Works (the Soothing Lip Butter.) I brush them on my lips with a tooth brush and it gently removes all the dead skin off my lips. I love it. Plus it brings out the natural color of my lips.
#148 Cynthia on 2011-01-25 16:23
Oilve oil keeps my scalp moisturized and my hair super shiny! then cocobutter lotion because it smells like a tropical paradise when its cold out!
#149 Kim on 2011-01-25 17:07
I use lotion that is formulated for people with eczema, I am never dry!
#150 Nicki on 2011-01-25 17:08
Adding 5-6 drops of lavender oil to a bath really helps moisturize my dry skin throughout the winter months. Everyone should try it.
#151 Nicole on 2011-01-25 20:06
Drink water non-stop!!
#152 Allison on 2011-01-25 22:20
My number 1 tip for treating dry winter skin is to exfoliate the dry flaky skin on the face, then immediately apply moisturizer. This way you will have a smooth face and you lock in the moisture on your face to fight the cold winter dryness.
#153 Fanny on 2011-01-25 23:31
Any type of lotion during the winter months help a lot. Body creams are amazing to use after the shower especially.
#154 Ani on 2011-01-26 00:12
two words: udder butter!
i also use a wet toothbrush to buff dry, flaky skin from my lips before putting on chapstick.
#155 katie on 2011-01-26 00:13
My carmex and St. Ives lotion - but I use both year around.
#156 Melanie on 2011-01-26 01:34

#158 sue on 2011-01-26 16:20
For super dry skin I use Aquaphor at night for hands, face and feet. In the morning, dry patches are gone!
#159 Nicole Q on 2011-01-26 18:40
Olive oil in the bath water! Just be careful getting out . . .
#160 Carla on 2011-01-26 18:42
Shower at night and when you jump into bed, slather you feet w/Vaseline and cover them with some thin cotton socks. They'll be super soft in the morning!
#161 Jennifer on 2011-01-26 20:36
Is it cheesy to say that Carmex does the trick for me... heck, my uncle even uses it on his hands and he's a carpenter who is out side ALL day in ALL weather.
#162 Chuck on 2011-01-26 20:43
Aquaphor and Carmex
#163 Maria on 2011-01-27 01:25
I use carmex for the lips on every patch of dry skin I have and it works like a charm!!!!
#164 Nicole on 2011-01-27 13:04
I use multiple products everyday to fight dryness. I have sensitive skin so I use a lot of lotions that are unscented and also I love love love using Chapstick Moisturizer in the blue tube. I usually have several tubes on hand because I love it so much. I also use Olay Healing Power Lotion just after I shower especially on my dry elbows and knees. It works wonders and doesn't leave me greasy which I love! For my face I use Clean & Clear Morning Burst face brightening mositurizer. It gives me a healthly glow even in winter!
#165 Danielle on 2011-01-27 16:26
One trick I've tried this winter allows me to take advantage of fragranced lotion while still getting the moisture protection I need. The result? Smooth skin and a wonderful fragrance. Usually fragranced lotions do not do a good job moisturizing so I take my favorite scented lotion and mix 1 part fragranced lotion with 1 part Avon Moisture Therapy (I prefer the Vitamin Enriched)and mix them together in a tub or pump bottle. Voila! Great fragrance AND great skin! And of course, I just can't live without my Carmex!
#166 Leesa on 2011-01-27 20:37
I add a little drop of apricot oil (Burt's Bees) to my usual smidge of facial moisturizer. It makes it rich enough to protect my face in the winter!
#167 Lily on 2011-01-27 20:37
I don't live in a super cold environment so my only treatment is drinking more water and putting lotion places I don't normally during the warmer months...like elbows.
#168 Rachel on 2011-01-28 11:09
Living in New England, we all have to take an extra few minutes to be sure we're well moisturized! On top of the massive amounts of water I drink, I make sure to lotion immediately when I get out of the shower in the morning and most importantly right before I go to bed. Moisturizing before bed allows the goods to set in while you get your 7-8 hours of beauty sleep!
#169 K on 2011-01-28 11:28
When it's dry, deep conditioner at least once a week and moisturizing daily is a must!!
#170 Lindsay on 2011-01-28 15:34
when my hands are really dry, i lotion and wear cotton gloves at night (super attractive, but it works).
#171 danielle on 2011-01-28 17:28
I use aquaphor on a daily basis! works wonders
#172 Emilee on 2011-01-28 18:35
I always apply moisturizer immediately after I wash my face!
#173 Lori on 2011-01-28 22:09
I sometimes put olive oil on my face and hands at night. When I wake up they're so soft and smooth!
#174 Roslyn on 2011-01-29 21:50
Always have a pair of gloves, so that your hands don't get cold and crack.

It is also always good to apply some Carmex or Petroleum jelly on your lips before bed so your lips don't dry up at night.
