Off the Rack: Walmart's Spring Fashion Fail

This past weekend I make a quick trip to Walmart to see what was new for spring in the fashion department, and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. There were a few cute things but nothing worth going out of your way to buy. The Miley Cyrus collection continues to be a surprising source of cute, cheap pieces like the pink ruffle cami (shown above), just $12. Pair it with jeans, some heels and a blazer and you have a respectable going-out look. Norma Kamali's line continues to baffle me - what's with the oversized sweatshirts, camo pants and kooky prints? I struggled to find 5 items suitable for sharing: A black trench ($35), black lightweight parka ($35), leopard wrap dress ($20), pinstripe shirtdress ($20) and striped v-neck tee. Norma Kamali for Walmart has really lost its steam and it's a darn shame.

Have you found any budget-fashion gems at Walmart recently?

The Wal-mart closest to me doesn't even carry Norma Kamali anymore, and I think I barely see any of the Miley Cyrus stuff. It's funny, because I'll go to a Wal-mart maybe 5 miles away, and it's all there. Did you see any Ms. Tina items at your Wal-mart? I saw some pieces at the farther away Wal-mart, but didn't note anything spectacular...

Same here, there are 3 Walmarts pretty close by but only one carries Norma Kamali. I have not seen any Miss Tina items yet in person, just online. Curious to hear what people think!

The animal print dress from Norma fits horrible :-(! I wen't to get it and I was very dissapointed. I do like her pencil skirts! I am very dissapointed too that this season Walmart really didn't do anything!

i found a couple of NK pieces online- a leopard print tunic and a capri length jumpsuit. i'm happy with them. my local store doesn't have anything spectacular in them either.

I totally agree. Haven't found anything this season and really didn't over the winter either.

The biggest surprise I find is that sometimes the nicest stuff is from the Miley Cyrus line. Of course I have to buy X-Large just to get them to fit, but they are made of the best material, and they have the best cut. Wow, I never thought I would say those words.

I did find some cute riding boots ($20) and black skinny jeans ($12) over the winter at WalMart. Last summer they had some cute boatneck/drawstring tops for $8 and I got them in 4 colors as they hide the belly and accentuate the chest. The past month or so has been a disappointment, but i'm hoping they will keep adding more items.

Eek. That pink blouse is the best option. Have to say that I think that leopard print is kind of hideous. Really hate a bad leopard print, and the striped tee and dress? Bad.

I found a very cute floral print dress -- Susie Rose brand -- the other day at my Walmart. I had been keeping an eye out for it actually after seeing it in (I believe) the latest issue of Glamour that I just received. Wait...it was either Glamour or Redbook (I get a lot of mags...I'm addicted!! LOL). The dress was $16.00 & it really is cute. Wore it yesterday. I also bought a pair of black jeggins from the Ms. Tina line ($18.00 fit so cute I HAD to have them...& I don't do leggings or jeggings usually) & also a cute printed silky type dress (also Ms. Tina..$12.00). The Ms. Tina stuff I purchased in February.

PS. I have tried to love the NK stuff because I feel like...well...I should...but I don't.

Wow. Yeah. Aside from the cute pink camisole (which would maybe last the summer if I wore/washed it a lot)...I have to say it's uninspiring. Lately I've had much better deals on more quality clothing from NY&Co. as well as Express. With all the sales and coupons I receive it's hard to find decent deals elsewhere. Especially for work clothing.

I have two of the NK convertible dresses (had to order them online because neither of my local stores carry this line) and the quality and versatility of both rocks! I missed out on the black tube dress and regret it terribly. From what I've seen (online), it looks like there are usually always a few standout pieces, a few great work basics and a few utterly unwearable items.

I find the Miley Cyrus line to be hit or miss, but love the ruffled pink camisole. The sizing is definitely for juniors though.

My local Walmart no longer carries the Norma Kamali line nor Miley's line, and hasn't for over a year. Now the "closest" Walmart that carries Kamali and Miley (according to their online merchandise locator) is almost 20 miles away. It's baffling: they took the "designer" lines out of all the metro area Walmarts, and left them in stores out in the boondocks.

I took a quick look at the clothing section of my local Walmart recently, and absolutely nothing jumped out at me. I've seen far cuter offerings at Target. I also saw some pics today from the Selena Gomez and Audrina Patridge for Bongo spring lines at Kmart, and they look promising. I picked up a few tops from Kmart last fall based on the look book post here and I received more than a few compliments. I was pleasantly surprised at how many very budget-friendly pieces appealed to me.

I picked up the leopard print NK dress at Christmas time in grey/black and I do love it. Too bad that line has been so uninspired lately b/c I bought several dresses in the line and like them alot a couple are quite timeless and travel well. What also has been uninspired for a while is the George line! So disappointing for several years. Oh well. It was fun to get decent clothes cheap while it lasted! :-)
