It's been a while since I reviewed a Target collaboration in person on account of me being pregnant, then too busy with a newborn to spend time galavanting in a dressing room like a teenager snapping selfies, but today I was up to my old tricks - and it felt good. Trying on the Peter Pilotto for Target collection in person reminded me why I love these lines - no matter where you live, if you live near a Target, you can pretend for just a few moments that you're somewhere more fashionable, somewhere where crazy prints are appreciated and boxy silhouettes are applauded. Sure, other shoppers may shake their heads in disapproval and walk by the racks without so much as a second glance, but you? You stop to take it all in because you love fashion and Target knows it.
And so it was with great enthusiasm that I tried on every available top, skirt, dress and blouse. The quality struck me as great for the price, and comparable to past designer collaborations. Sizing felt true to size, but cut for a close fit (to quote the sizing guide on Net-a-porter.com, where select pieces from this collection were available for purchase to a global audience). Fabrications felt appropriate for the price - plenty of polyester as usual (no wrinkles and not scratchy!) but also some nice cotton-blend jersey like this flattering dress ($40) and this cotton modal longsleeve shirt ($20).
I had ordered this sweatshirt at approximately 5 a.m. ET the night of the launch (up nursing my little one so I figured why not?) from Net-a-porter.com and was pleased with the quality once I saw it in person. I appreciated the generous length of this crepe dress ($40) and this shirt-dress ($35); either would work well belted and topped with a blazer or moto jacket for work, or paired with sneakers or loafers for a Downtown weekend look. I was also pleasantly surprised by this flattering peplum top ($25) and this cool racerback tank ($25). The simple yet modern silhouettes make these pieces look more expensive than they actually are.
I didn't see any swimwear, shoes or accessories nor did I see statement-making pieces such as this stretch-matelassé dress ($70). Hopefully I'll have time to hit another Target and find some more goodies. As much as I enjoyed the collection, I can't see myself getting a lot of wear out of any of these pieces - which is fine, for the price these aren't closet staples but rather fun, unique pieces you might wear a handful of times - so I just grabbed this blouse ($35) and called it a day.
From your many comments on Instagram (looove reading them!), people either loved this line or couldn't get into it at all. What did you love, hate, buy, or try to buy but couldn't?? Let me know in the comments!

This collection felt very conceptual -- both the prints and fabrics were very surf inspired and I think some people had a hard time seeing how that could translate off the beach and into every day life. One of my friends just saw the pieces in the TV commercial and couldn't get over how wild all the prints looked in the ad. I think the TV ad didn't help -- using even more prints in the background just made it look even crazier!
I bought a few pieces, including swimwear. The rash guard might be going back -- I didn't realize it had that big key hole in the back, making it not office appropriate, unfortunately. I'm waiting patiently to get my moto jacket and romper. I'm not normally a romper person but this one was so cute I had to try it out!
