Decorate by Number: Spot-On Powder Room

Powder Room

In this weekly column, I'm sharing chic tips for decorating on the cheap. Today it's all about a glamorous powder room. Also be sure to check out my personal blog A Vintage Splendor for more ideas.

To change things up a bit, I’ve decided to dive into a powder room makeover, which extends beyond styling and ventures into DIY territory. Trust me, the results are worth the extra elbow grease! I’ve been lusting after this powder room for some time now and filed it into the category of inspired rooms to make a reality.
As I often mention, decorating comes down to breaking down a room into elements. One of the key elements of the inspired powder room is the dotted wallpaper. The wallpaper serves as a neutral backdrop (in my world!) for the green and gold elements that really make the powder room lust-worthy. I love the idea of going bold in a powder room since it’s a sophisticated surprise for guests, but since it’s not a room you spend lots of time in as in your office or living room, you won’t tire too quickly from the bold aesthetic.

This is a great low-cost wallpaper that you can install yourself with a little bit of patience and good weather in a day. A typical costly element of a bathroom remodel is the sink (think $1,000+), but I found one for under $320 that only requires a coating of gold metallic spray paint. Once the wallpaper and sink are installed, the rest of the work is simply a matter of sprinkling the décor elements: vase, sconces, mirror, and towels. Based on experience, you can do a project like this in about 3 days with help from a friend.

Below are my low-cost picks for creating a luxurious powder room:
