Off the Rack: Fall Finds at Kohl's

Fall finds at Kohl's

I was back at Kohl's again a couple days ago to scout out the new fall arrivals. The Apt. 9 label - which is usually one of their more stylish lines - has a decent number of pieces that I wanted to own. Let's start with this Apt. 9 geometric textured sweatshirt ($20) shown above: It's got quilting (a big fall trend that I'm loving since it's an easy way to add texture to a look and update old standbys like the sweatshirt), and it's a beautiful Bordeaux color, which always says "Fall" in my book. Picture it layered over a white button-down shirt with black pants, heels and some J.Crew-esque baubles. Yes, please.
I also fell for this zebra sweater ($30) and this leopard print sweater ($30) - both were super cozy and soft and would look great with leggings or skinnies and tall boots (or ankle boots) this season.

If you've been pinning fall looks that require a moto vest or jacket but can't spring for costly genuine leather - or you simply prefer vegan leather - I think you'll be impressed with both this Apt. 9 quilted moto vest ($40) and this Apt. 9 moto jacket ($50) which I first spied on my girl Megan's Instagram in unexpected lavender, dusty blue, gray or black. Then again the pastel hues may be expected if you're fond of fall's pastel trend - a little seasonal color palette twist to keep things fresh!

Aside from these Apt. 9 highlights, I noticed the new Juicy Couture collection has launched (meh), and Dana Buchman has real leather handbags, a Kohl's first! Warning, they are pricy. This Dana Buchman "Bryant" leather satchel is $101 on sale. I think we could do better elsewhere. But it's a step in the right direction.

Scroll down for more photos - I didn't get to try much on (or buy anything) this trip because little man figured out how to unlock and open dressing rooms doors. He can't be contained! So I'll have to head back another time to get some goodies.

I am gonna have to check out the moto vest and the quilted sweatshirt, both look super cute! And I don't get the locks on those Dana Buchman bags - I know most of those locks don't serve a real purpose (who has time to lock and unlock their handbags??) but at least they LOOK like they are. This, though, just coming out of the side of the bag like that? Just seems awkward and weird and a tad desperate to try to look like pricier brands. :-/ Seems like you're having a good time with your LO! I'm going to attempt my first solo shopping trip this week with my 5 month-old. She can't walk yet, so I won't have to chase her down but...it'll be interesting, that's for sure! :-)

Aww fun, let me know how it goes! I have friends with babies that are the same age as my little guy (now 15 months) and they still won't shop for clothes without backup (or heading out alone)! It's not easy but I find strangers are my best support, whenever someone kind stops to talk to my little guy, he just lights up and that gives mama some relief ;-)

Yes, it's definitely nice when strangers come by and give LO attention! But at this age, she just smiles at them and then continues looking around like, whatever~ LOL We ended up hitting Target right before Kohl's (got the Altuzzara sweater with the gold herons on the shoulders, last one in my size!) and that was probably me just pushing it because by the time we were in Kohl's, she was shopped out. To make things quick, I tried on the Apt.9 sweatshirt in the middle of the aisle (making googly faces and talking baby-speak to distract her from having a meltdown in the stroller, only to realize that there were NO MIRRORS anywhere but in the dressing rooms, so I ended up having to wheel her there to take a look), but found that it didn't fit me (or rather, it didn't fit the "girls"...*sigh* a frequent problem of mine). I didn't have time to search for the moto vest (darn!), but I got a denim jacket from Elle (been looking for a stretchy denim one), so maybe it wasn't a complete disaster since she didn't have a full-blown meltdown (so that means success, right?). :-) All in all, not a bad first solo shopping trip with baby girl! Thanks for this post; it got me motivated to venture out on my own with the LO.

Sounds very successful to me, hooray! And now I'm going to look for that stretchy denim jacket, my current one has been feeling really tight around the arms lately and its uncomfortable especially when you're picking up a baby all the time. My girls to my dismay did not get bigger after pregnancy (figures! haha). TMI?! :-)

p.s. I agree with you, the locks = unnecessary!

zebra sweater looks really cute

as for shopping with kids,
when my kids were little , I put them in the stroller and we went to mall. I guess I am from a different generation.

Thanks Mary, I'd wager it's people from your generation who have been so helpful to a new mom like myself - when baby is fussing and/or crying uncontrollably, it's been so nice to have other moms or grandmas come over and distract my son, tell a joke, make him smile and make me feel like I'm doing a good job - no judgement or eye rolls like "why can't she control her kid?!" lol. I do not hesitate to take my son anywhere, some trips are more successful than others but I figure the only way he'll learn is by doing :-)

I was pleasantly surprised to see REAL leather handbags for the Simply Vera Wang line at Kohls.com last week too. Love a good leather handbag, so I ordered the olive green Paris satchel and the Geneva calf hair crossbody. Just got them, and really like both... especially for the price. The satchel seems MAB-inspired and the crossbody is a great mix of textures. They're both kind of casual boho chic I think. I'm really happy with both! BTW - After sales price and a 30% discount, I got the satchel for about $70 and the crossbody for $50 delivered. Great deals for genuine leather from Vera Wang!

Get out! I didn't see those, I will look for them on my next trip. Thanks for the tip. I'm really liking her new line of work-out wear, too, very modern and seems to be great quality as well.

It is so stressful to try and shop with kids and its so boring for them! I try to make time for my errands when daddy is home or even after they go to bed. Its just more fun that way!

Great finds! Love the animal prints.
As for shopping with the little guy -- I'm from that "put them in the stroller and go" generation. Have you checked out the baby ipad/iphone games? No one wants to give them too much time on those things, but I'm thinking Mama's time in the dressing room could equate with Little Guy's time to play a game. Mama gets to shop and try on, Little Man improves his hand to eye coordination, I get to see his sweet face in the background of your pics -- Yay! We all win! :0)
