Poll: Shopping for Fashion at Walmart

Wally World isn't exactly known for high fashion, but are their low prices enough to get you in the door?

I bought flip flops from walmart and had a horrible allergic reaction to them. Apparently this happened to a lot of people because they were cheap flip flops made with some chemical. So lesson of the day, don't buy your clothes from walmart.

I heard about that story! people at work were passing around a link to this website:
http://www.lamanaphotography.com/walmart2.htm

not sure if the pics are doctored, but there are some gory ones showing what happened to some poor woman's feet.

so sorry to hear it happened to you, too.

I prefer Target for clothes/accessories, but occassionally WalMart has some decent stuff at super cheap prices.

In college, I used Wal-Mart for picking up cheap accessories for themed mixers and parties. From time to time, I've found a cute pair of earrings or another item, but unfortunately they've never held up well, or the nickel-free coating has worn off the jewelry quickly (I'm allergic to metals containing nickel). Now, I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. I prefer Target's atmosphere. There was also a study done comparing Target's prices to Wal-Mart's prices on cleaning supplies, cosmetics, etc. of the same brands, and Target is actually just as inexpensively priced when it comes to those items. (This doesn't apply to fashion items.) Anyway ... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I belong to Team Target!

I also read that Target's prices are just as low as Wal-Mart's in WWD, thanks for pointing that out :-)

I just can't bring myself to support such a poorly conglomerate company. Even if they bring in random Prada or Rebecca Beeson as a diffusion line, I'll never ever support it.

hi. i'm not a big fan of walmart. their clothes are generally of fairly poor quality. i would rather shop at target. cheap. but at least with more conscience.

i have a quick fashion question. everyone is wearing maxis these days. i'm asian, fairly short (5'4) with a short body, apple shaped. any particular budget friendly maxis to recommend (or if i should even think about it?)

I've been getting that question a lot - my answer is wear one if you love the look and if you feel comfortable in it. Maxis can actually elongate shorter figures, and you can always wear one with heels. I think we've all seen pics of Nicole Richie rockin' this look and she's not very tall at all.

Charlotte Russe has a couple cute, simple maxis for about $30:

I would never support them, especially not in the fashion department. Not only do I not like the store on paper, but I also can stand being in there! The environment is deplorable, and I still can bear the way walmarts have taken over! There used to be a mexican market in puerto vallarta, now its a giant walmart, on the pacific coast of mexico!!! Disgusting!!! This is the kind of thing that is going to destroy the quality of life in our world

I agree with Peaches. I haven't stepped foot in a Walmart in years in general.

i used to shop there bcuz it was across the street from where i worked but then a colleague of mine who had a son who was a college honor student and in a wheel chair told me this story. they had signs all over the place that they were hiring for the summer so he called and they told him very enthusiastically to apply. the minute they saw he was handicapped (he only had something wrong with his legs, nothing else) they said they had no vacancies. so much for the lies in their ads showing handicapped people and veterans. it's a horrible place.
i hope they go broke. their stuff is crap.

Wal-Mart is not a bad place to shop, you just have to be very, very selective. I would do casual, canvas shoes. I wouldn't do their man-made pleather shoes. I tried it once and I wasted my money. The only decent place for man-made shoes on-the-cheap if you don't do leather/animal skin is rue21 and Payless. Payless actually has some nice kicks that they got Patricia Fields to design for them and of course they bought out American Eagle shoe line as well.

.....also, if there is a Rainbowshop in your city, they carry a shoe line called Rouge and they make man-made shoes that are made pretty decently and they are all under $25 dollars. Of course try all your shoes on and walk around the store....to make sure you get a proper fit and that they don't hurt your feet. Buying Dr. Scholl advanced shoe insoles will keep your feet secure and take care of any sweating.
