Capsule Wardrobe Special Edition: 7 Summer Weddings

Style one dress for 7 weddings!
Welcome back to Fashion Capsule! Thank you for all your positive feedback this past week. In this weekly segment, I'll show you how to style three items under $50 for an entire week’s worth of outfits. Because wedding season is in full swing, this week’s installment will all be wedding-guest themed. If you’re anything like Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses, you may actually need seven different outfits for a wedding every day of the week. Let’s get started!

The Pieces:

Maurice’s Chiffon Dress in Coral $44
When I think of a spring or summer wedding, I imagine bright colors. This dress has my favorite neckline as well. This kind of neckline means that you don’t have to worry about too much jewelry. I think it’s beautiful and flowy, and for some reason reminds me of a teacup. The wonderful part about this dress is that it can easily be transformed and reused any way you desire. It is very versatile because it is relatively basic. Another great option is this Mossimo halter dress, which I recently saw at Target; it's available in coral, teal or black online or in-store for $27.99 and comes in sizes XS-XL.

Akira Strappy Heeled Sandal $30
Increasing versatility means choosing items that go well with multiple colors. These nude heels are great for versatility because they complement multiple outfits, but they are far from boring.

Mermaid Shimmer Clutch $35
This clutch is so cool. At first glance it looks just like a fancy gold clutch that pairs well with practically any outfit. However, it is really a seashell. I really believe that clutches can be so much fun. After watching any awards shows, you would believe the same thing. Clutches can be cute and quirky and not simply utilitarian.

Country wedding outfit idea

Like I said before, some of us may have a wedding every day of the week. For instance, Monday may be a beautiful country wedding. You don’t want to look too kitschy, but it doesn’t hurt to dress for the venue that the couple has chosen. If they want to celebrate their special day in a beautiful barn adorned with globe lights hanging from the ceiling and haystacks everywhere, you don’t want to wear a ball gown and stilettos. These fringe boots are really fantastic because the chunky heel won’t sink down into the mud. Shoes are probably the most important part of your outfit to consider when preparing for a wedding. The horseshoe earrings may be a little cliché, but they’re cute and fun. Weddings don’t need to be serious; after all, they are a celebration!

Destination Wedding Outfit Idea

Although they are not necessarily mutually exclusive, when I think of a destination wedding I think of a beach wedding. The dress goes perfectly for a beach wedding. The mermaid shell clutch and floral earrings are obvious choices for cute plays on the venue. Along with my advice that shoes are the most important item of your outfit for consideration, these shoes were a crucial choice. If you’re attending a wedding on the beach, sandals really should be worn. Subsequently, you won’t be finding sand in your shoes for weeks after.

Unconventional wedding outfit idea

For those of you who may be confused about what a hipster wedding is: a hipster wedding is a beautifully quirky ceremony where flower crowns, suspenders, Converse shoes, mason jars, birds, tattoos and gauges are abundant. A hipster wedding probably looks like any scene from Portlandia. A shirt and skirt combo are perfect for a hipster wedding because the enemy of the hipster is conventionalism. It would be super embarrassing for you and another guest if you both showed up in the same dress. The high-waisted maxi skirt will look very fresh and original when paired with the cropped top.

Traditional wedding outfit idea

The traditional wedding is one that takes place in a country club or banquet hall. Classiness is key in these venues. You must be chic and sharp. This particular outfit, with the high-collared neckline on the dress, the high-collar on the jacket, and the dangle earrings, really needs to be worn with an updo. A classic French twist would look really cute. If you don’t want to look too uptight or like a politician, I would suggest a middle-parted low bun. The shoes also add an element that adds youth and fun to the outfit so it isn’t too stuffy.

Edgy wedding outfit idea

The really great thing about this dress is that it can be styled into any genre or theme. The bright color allows the black leather jacket and the black shoes to not look too dark. This clutch also follows my advice about quirky bags. It adds fun to this look.

Outdoor wedding outfit idea

Again, it’s all about the shoes. For an outside wedding, you can absolutely not wear stilettos. They will sink into the ground and you will have caked mud and grass everywhere. Wedges are a much safer route. You will find it’s much easier to walk around. Trust me on this one. I also am in love with these earrings. They go beautifully with the dress. It’s like they were practically made for the dress.

Royal Wedding outfit idea

Sunday/Royal Wedding
Pearl Cuff $20
Bow Fascinator $5

This one may be a far reach, but let’s say you were invited to a wedding that hoped to capture the magic of Will and Kate’s 2011 nuptials or Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden’s recent wedding. If this is the case, you will need to be prepared. Basically, follow a similar outfit to what you wore for the traditional wedding. However, you will need to wear a fascinator. If you can’t afford a Philip Treacy hat, there are many other places that have cute options. I would recommend following the Duchess of Cambridge’s path, and wear your hair long and flowy for the wedding.
