How do you take your favorite little black dress into fall? With a luxe blanket scarf, over-the-knee boots and structured satchel - that's how. Today's fall outfit idea got lots of love on Instagram, so I thought I'd link up to some of the pieces you need to recreate this look here on the blog. So let's get started!
I'm assuming everyone owns a little black dress so I didn't include that in my collage...wait, you don't?! You must! If you need a new one, check H&M - something like this dress would work well for day or night during the fall and winter months.
I love the longer length and flattering 3/4 length sleeves on this Metaphor dress ($20 at Sears) but the fabric is pretty lightweight (I saw it in person) so be aware.
And don't rule out Dress Barn, they have a wide selection of black dresses for all sizes. This petite zip collar sweater dress is super chic.
Now on to the blanket scarf:
Everyone is carrying these right now, the trick is finding one at a good price. I bought one at Walmart for $8.97 (seen here, although I haven't been able to find it online). Asos.com has a similar scarf for $33 HERE.
The scarf in my collage shown above is from Forever 21, but again, I can't find it online. I bought the one you see above for $12.90! It's super soft and big. Not a full blanket size (it's more rectangular) but definitely big enough to be styled as a blanket scarf. From what I've read on other fashion blogs, sometimes a cheaper, lighter weight scarf is actually easy to style (and less irritating that genuine wool), so there's that.
This ASOS oversized plaid blanket scarf would also work well for recreating the look above. ($36)
Let's not forget Target! They have a great selection of stylish blanket scarves under $25 HERE.
Oh! And another great site for cheap blanket scarves is loulouboutiques.com. I discovered Lou Lou because they have a boutique in my downtown. Such great accessories! I saw this scarf in person yesterday and it's amazing. Reasonably priced at $35.
Moving on to the over-the-knee boots:
The exact boots shown above can be found HERE at forever21.com for $44.90. These will probably sell out fast. It's hard to find over-the-knee boots at that price point! Choose from black, grey, or olive faux suede.
If you want a flat boot option, I'm partial to these. Swoon.
Ready to spend a bit more? I saw these Sole Society over the knee boots at Nordstrom and they're super hot. ($139.95)
Finally, the bag:
The exact bag shown above (right column) is this Sam & Libby tote, available for $44.99 at target.com. I like the color for fall.
Mossimo has some really cool colorblock satchels in stores now, like this one ($39.99). Love the structured shape and hint of color.
Overall this is a subtly sexy look for fall that I think many of us can pull off - it's all about balancing those over-the-knee boots with a more conservative LBD and adding volume and interest (and warmth) with the blanket scarf. Would you wear this look? Let me know what you think in the comments!
