3 Spring Trends to Try From London

Hey Budget Babes!! My name is Maddie Kelley and I am so excited to be joining the team as an intern. I am a Wellesley College student currently studying abroad in London. My personal style is simple with a hint of edgy. My fashion is very inspired by my travels and street wear. I'm looking forward to your feedback and I can't wait to share my writing with all of you!

When I get to a new city, I’m always scanning the crowds for what everyone is wearing. I can’t walk by a single person without noticing their shoes, their bag, their jeans...basically every element of their outfit in order to understand what sets the city’s fashion apart from others.

London style is actually quite unique, especially in Soho, the fashion hub of London. Filled with fashion students, designers, and shoppers, the fashion style there is casual but cool and effortless yet sophisticated.

Here are three major trends I've seen while living abroad in London, plus budget-friendly pieces to help you get the look:

3 Spring Trends to Try From London
1. Daytime metallics: During my time here in London, I have noticed that almost every girl owns a pair of metallic culottes. The key is to make them casual since they can be quite dressy if paired with the right blouse and heels. London ladies love to wear their culottes with a cool graphic tee and sneakers. Perfect for a day running around Soho.

Shop The Look:
PANTS: Forever 21 Culottes (also love these)
T-SHIRT: Topshop Graphic Tee
SHOES: Forever 21 Sneakers or try these Old Skool Vans
BAG: Forever 21 Handbag

2. Statement Sleeves: With springtime springing in London, people are starting to match the blooming surroundings with lighter colors, lighter jackets, and summer flats. One huge trend this season is big sleeves. The bigger the better, really. London isn't the only place you’ll see this trend this spring, nonetheless I'm seeing a lot of British fashionistas in ruffled blouses with oversized sleeves. Pair your top with a London style staple - mom jeans - to dress down the blouse. Finish with a cool pair of mules for a sophisticated yet chic London look.

Shop The Look:
TOP: Boohoo Blouse // Similar Zara Blouse // River Island Blouse
JEANS: H&M Mom Jeans (also like this pair)
SHOES: Ego Mules // River Island Mules
HANDBAG: BP Handbag at Nordstrom

3. Fishnets: Once you step onto Berwick Street in Soho, you immediately feel the urban grunge. Although it will not keep you warm during the winter months, layering fishnets under your ripped jeans will definitely help you to blend in with the Soho crowd. In order to balance the edginess of this outfit, pair it with metallic loafers to make it more sophisticated.

Shop The Look:
TOP: H&M Graphic Tee
JEANS: River Island Ripped Jeans
TIGHTS: Asos Fishnets
SHOES: Topshop Loafers // Shein Loafers
HANDBAG: Shein Bag

Which London trend would you try?

Thanks so much Sam!! I'm glad you like the culottes! You should definitely invest in those babies. They make a great day to night transition piece, plus they're super comfy!

Thanks Kay!! I actually got that blouse in a different color and I wear it all the time!! Such a great piece. I've worn it with denim shorts and sneakers and then switched it up with heels and pants for dinner!

What about trends for June in Paris? Needing your assistance!

Paris is a little bit more formal than London. Paris style in general evokes the "effortless" look. Furthermore, Paris is the epitome of chic so classic looks will work better here. I would opt for simple outfits with pops of color, such as scarves or handbags. For me, I would go for slacks, a t-shirt, and a neck scarf with kitten heel sandals for day. For night, flowy dresses and sandals would work perfectly! Also, bring red lipstick. The Parisian women love to wear jeans and a tee with red lipstick to spice it up! Have the best time!!

Love your picks, Maddie.
Victoria Beckham's Target Collection is great. Do they have it in London?

Thanks Carla!! Unfortunately, we do not have Target in London. I wish we did because it would have come in handy when I was moving into my flat! But, I will definitely check it out online! Thanks for the tip :-)

Metallic culotte and Metallica tee seem too much but actually it's not. Metal loves excesses and London is the homeplace of metal.
I love the connection music & fashion.
