I just wanted to quickly share my initial thoughts on Prologue, Target's new minimalist clothing collection. The focus of Prologue, according to Target, is on quality fabrics and cuts that are trend-forward.
Think blouses, trousers, coats and more that can be mixed and matched for the office and after-hours.
First I'll start by saying that my Target store has made a lot of upgrades in the clothing department. There are fewer racks overall and better displays so you can really see the clothes. It's beautiful!
As for Prologue, I struggled to find those statement pieces that would garner tons of "likes" on Instagram. But that doesn't mean it's not good! Rather, it's about the whole ensemble and not just eye-catching items on the rack. And I appreciate that. So often retailers focus on gimmicks to get you to shop (bright colors! fun details!) but then you get home and realize you're never going to wear those items more than once.
With that in mind, I was drawn to items such as this wrap skirt - it's just $24.99 and currently 20% off. You can't go wrong. The size 4 seemed right, so I'd say it runs TTS.
This long sherpa vest is not an easy look to pull off but I applaud the effort. It's $44.99, plus 20% off. I tried the size XS - size small would have been perfect.
I tried on this navy jacket in the size XS and it was still intentionally oversized. It's $44.99, plus 20% off so the pricepoint is good. The fabric was a bit disappointing but not bad for the price.
This tweed coat was one of my favorite pieces despite the scratchy fabric. It's $49.99, plus 20% off. I tried the size XS and as you'll see from my photo, it's generously proportioned.
Finally, I'd recommend this long gray cardigan for just $34.99 plus 20% off. But be forewarned, it's a bit itchy. My favorite cardigan of all time is this one by Leith at Nordstrom, but it's $69 full price (I always get mine on sale!) I'll pay a little extra for softness!
As for the blouses, some were beautiful and not sheer while others had questionable prints, colors, and poor quality fabrics. I like this look on the mannequin but crop pants like this pair are so hard to pull off unless you're wearing heels:
If you're looking for stylish yet affordable office attire, give Prologue a look. Take multiple sizes to the dressing room because sizing is definitely a bit odd. Wear heels and be sure to try the blouses with the pants for the full effect. I think you'll like what you see!
Have you seen Prologue yet? What did you buy?

Wanted to love it, but just couldn’t find anything in this collection to get excited about.
