Target has teamed up with husband-and-wife-team
Isabel and Ruben Toledo to create an affordable swimwear line priced from $3.99 to $34.99 which will launch at the grand opening of a Target store in East Harlem on July 25th, and at select Target stores and Target.com on August 1st. The collection is part of Target's
Harlem Designers Series, limited-time only collections that "reflect and honor the spirit of Harlem while giving back to the local community." Five percent of the purchase cost will be donated to a Harlem non-profit; Isabel and Ruben Toledo chose el Museo del Barrio. The Harlem series also includes apparel by designer Stephen Burrows and items for the home by chef Marcus Samuelsson.
You may recognize Isabel Toledo's name as her designs have been worn by First Lady Michelle Obama. I love Ruben Toledo's fashion illustrations; would have loved to have seen some of those incorporated into the designs. I'm not really in the market for a bathing suit but I like the black and white bikini. The cover-up looks almost identical to something I had when I was a little girl! Cute, but not the second time around. What I really like are the home goods by Marcus Samuelsson, I'll post pics of those later so check back!
