Ask BB: Classic Brown Riding Boots on a Budget

I'm starting college across the country on the East Coast in a couple weeks and I'd really like a pair of classic brown riding boots. Unfortunately, every pair I fall in love with is $300! Do you have any ideas for more affordable options?

I do! In fact, I'm looking for a pair of classic brown riding boots myself. There are dozens of great options hitting stores now, and my favorite has to be these Merona "Manette" tall boots in tan or brown, just $39.99 at Target. I love the clean, classic lines while the decorative buckle adds a distinctive touch.

For $30 more, you can get these genuine leather "Kasia" boots, also by Merona for Target. You'll be hard pressed to find leather riding boots anywhere else for such a great price unless you shop end-of-season sales.

Good luck with the move and with school, you're going to love the East Coast! xoBB

Oh man - leather boots. So lovely, but so expensive. Those target boots are nice, but if you're going to spend ~$70 on a pair of boots, you might as well spend $100 for a pair that will last longer than a season. I have a pair of leather boots from Target last year and they were awesome, cute, and comfortable...until the leather started looking like crap and the sole fell apart. On the other hand, I have a pair of BCBG brown leather boots that I wear to death, have had for over 4 years, and they are holding up great - and were just a smidge over $100.

I agree with Ashley. If you can spare 100-200, I would highly suggest investing in a good pair of leather boots. Particularly if they are something that you will wear a lot. I bought a nice pair of shoes before my freshman year of college and they lasted all four years of undergrad.

I'm vegan, so I have to get non-leather boots. It's really hard to find any that last longer than a season, but I'm willing to pay the small price of $30-$40 dollars per season for a cruelty-free product. And the way I see it, $40 per year is still less than a $200+ boot that will last 3-4 years. :-)

That first pair is GORGEOUS, though. I love them!! Thanks for the tip!

Does anyone own the Merona "Manette" boots? I just ordered them, but have a feeling they may not look as good in person as they do in the photo. Fingers crossed!

I just bought the Kasia and absolutely love them. I live in Chicago and our weather is rough on boots so they don't last more than one or two seasons anyways...

Target has had some great finds lately. Check out the Steve Madden "knockoffs" they have available -- I just posted them up today!

xx,
