Jason Wu for Target: What Did You Get?

I took a break from preparing for our Super Bowl party yesterday morning around 11 a.m. to check out the Jason Wu for Target launch and was surprised to discover near-empty racks at the two stores I visited. I underestimated the demand for this launch, but I guess we've entered a post-Missoni era in which this has become the norm. As is The Budget Babe tradition, I tried on what few items remained on the racks and snapped some pics, though none of the items were my size (sorry for the dismal photos and my distracting leopard print pants, I had expected to try on some Jason Wu skirts but none were available). Then, as I was leaving the women's department, I noticed someone had returned one size small top - the navy floral tank - so I scooped it up. Yay!? I then headed to a second Target store in my area but that one had been cleaned out too. A store associate told me shoppers lined up before the doors opened. Target's Twitter folks told me Jason Wu will be restocked on-line later in the week but not in stores. Follow @TargetStyle for up to the minute updates on that in case you missed out and are hoping to purchase something.

What was your experience? Did you shop in store or on-line? What did you get? From your tweets, Facebook and Instagram messages I know many of you made out pretty well, and I applaud you! It is what it is, so I'm not stressin'.

Oh I love the floral tank on, I saw it on the racks and wasn't sure...

I wasn't really that into the collection... but I love your pants!

I went out around 10:30 and there was even less on the racks than were there for you. They only had one shirt in my size to try on and it was just awful. I took pictures of the empty racks: http://wantyourfashion.blogspot.com/2012/02/jason-wu-for-target-fail.html

I was able to get a few things online and happened to be in a target to get super bowl fixings and managed to get a few more things. Although I will probably end up returning a few of the things I ordered online since I didn't love the fit of everything I tried in the store - there were also only XL sizes left in almost everything! Target certainly did well for themselves this time around!

Also shocked that is flew off the shelves! I was disappointed with the collection. Side note - I love your loafers! I recently blogged about the glitter loafers on sale at J. Crew. I need a pair!

I live in a fairly small town that doesn't care about fashion so I managed to luck out. I was there at 8:00am and by the time I had picked up my couple of pieces the rest of the girls there emptied out most of the stock. My store didn't put out their accessories yet though so I plan on swinging by after work today to look at those.

I got the Pink and white polka dot top, black pleated skirt, dot-print shirt dress, and the pink and black tie blouse (which is going back)

I bought the navy floral tank too, I'm wearing it at work today =)
A bunch of the other things I tried on fit REALLY weird. Must not have been made to look even halfway decent on a skinny girl with a big chest, haha.

I went at about 9am yesterday and was one of about 4 shoppers in the store and the racks were full. I tried on a few things that were cute but really had my heart set on the blue and black A-line dresses, neither of which my Target had.

Didn't buy anything but will probably go back to see if the accessories have been put out.

I met my sister there at 7:40 am and there was a line. When we were let into the store, the racks were cleared out in minutes. Sister bought the nude/yellow/black striped dress and I grabbed one of the black/straw clutches.

I had a lot of luck with the Jason Wu line! I got to the store at 7:50 and was probably #10 in line. The store was sold out by 8:05!

By the way - tell me where you got those amazing pants! I love those & definitely need a pair of my own!

I decided I wasn't going to play into the hype, then saw via Twitter the navy dress with the bottom stripe and thought "I need this!". I went to three Targets, two of which didn't carry the dress...the third, had one left in my size. I think I got lucky that it ran big because only a larger size was left and it fit. I really wanted to try on/see the cream dress w/ black lace and belt, but alas, it seems to be nowhere near me.

Maybe they'll restock online?

can i say i LOVE your leopard pants?! haha :-) as we talked about, i wasn't too interested in this collection. sizing was so weird on the items that my store actually did have! i'm happy that i snagged the bag :-)

I live in Wisconsin, where there isn't a lot of fashion hype, but even the racks at my stores cleared quite quickly. I went to four stores and managed the snag the last navy floral skirt in my size. Hoorah!

Didn't find any of the accessories, though, which was a bummer. (I love that kitty tote!) Only two stores in my area were even carrying them, and those racks were empty by the time I got the store at noon.

love your pants and shoes? just out of curiosity where'd you get them from?
#14 stef on 2012-02-06 14:04 (Reply)
I'm pretty sure the pants are UK Style by French Connection from Sears. My local Sears is sold out of them, but they might be lingering on the clearance racks of your local Sears.

That's correct. And the shoes are from SoleSociety.

Missoni set a new precedent for lining up at Target for these collections. I went early, and did well. The dresses had nice attention to detail, although sizing ran large, as expected. Love the leopard pants! I am such a fan of animal prints and florals! I wrote a review with some shopping tips on my blog.

I did pretty well myself. My Target still has quite a bit of clothes left. I got the blue floral skirt and top, the blue polka dot top, the blue pleated top, the striped sailor top, the blue floral scarf, and I picked up the poplin dress for someone to send to them, and the pink bow top to send to someone else.
#16 Tracie on 2012-02-06 15:03 (Reply)
Target hyped the hell out of this one, which is why it sold out so fast. Most of the clothes are just "meh", except for some of the dresses, some select tops, and the accessories. What bums me out most are the eBay vultures who (like with Missoni) scooped up the goods to resell at a profit.

AGREED. this was the first time i've gone to the store at soon as it opened to check out a line. the guy in the all white tracksuit with a huge gold chain and watch and a bluetooth in his ear grabbing every single size xs and small really bummed me out. killed the whole experience for me.

that, and everything was just really gross quality. so much polyester. so disappointed in jason wu.

The collabs can be done sans cheap polyester. Thakoon did it with certain pieces in cotton and linen. And Rogan insisted on it for his TWO lines with Target (Rogan for Target and Loomstate) by using only organic cotton and silk.

The Target in Brooklyn only had L and XL in stock when I went around 1 in the afternoon. The had the pink blouse with white polka dots, a couple of the tee with the lace down the front and a smattering of dresses. They still had several of the white tote with the blue and yellow stripes, one black lace clutch and one black/straw clutch. There was one kitty tote left that a woman picked up. They must've had a crowd earlier in the day.

I ordered the striped tote online before I went out as I had something else I wanted to order from them anyway. Looks like several things were sold out online, but a few things were still in stock.

My mom went to her Target when it opened and there weren't too many people there and still quite a few clothes. She picked up the pink and white polka dot blouse for me and the navy floral dress with the yellow belt. She's going to mail them to me to try on. Apparently her store didn't get very many handbags, which is what she was interested in. They were all snapped up by the time she got there.

BB, you're such a lovely girl, those blouses with the ties just age you and look like something a much older woman would wear. Sorry, they are frumpy. The cutest item is the sleeveless floral top. Everything else is meh, even on fabulous you! :-) Mary

I ended up with the Belize Blue blouse and the red/white/blue dress you tried on. It was a madhouse at my local Target, which I had not anticipated. Nice items? Yes. Worth clawing through women for? No. I just wrote about the whole thing today, too!

I was underwhelmed and disappointed, however the blue floral print top was too cute on you! Perhaps I should've bought it too. Oh well..

This was so so SHAMEFUL!! I'll bet any amount of money that the racks were cleaned out not by women who really like the styles but by those greedy fiends who think they can make big bucks off these clothes on eBay. Every Target in our area was cleared out. Target should really do something about this.

I've seen pretty much every designer line Target launched since the very beginning (only time I couldn't was when I was in another country) and bought some beautiful clothes. It makes me really angry that women like me who like to actually check out the clothes because we appreciate good design are suddenly getting bulldozed over by morons out to make a buck.

I hope they all totally lose out and are forced to return everything they bought. I know that might sound vindictive and petty but I'm so pissed off I don't care.

I went to two Targets yesterday and if you were a L or XL, it was your lucky day. Found practically nothing in my size, and none of the dresses I really liked. But I picked up a pleated blue skirt with the floral design.

The eBay scalpers are a big problem. Target should limit purchases and it would help if dopes didn't keep the scalpers in business by buying from them.

I was very excited about this collection, and wary after the Missoni mess. I told myself I wouldn't try to order anything online after having the site crash in the midst of ordering last time and then Target canceling the order it took me two hours to place. But two items were available on the website at midnight - the cat tote and scarf. I have a black cat that looks like the handsome model. :-) I tried to order the pinwheel dress I really wanted, but to no avail. The site was a wonky mess the night of the launch. Even the links targetstyle was posting on facebook and twitter weren't working. People were switching browsers and not much worked. Some nice people posted working links for some of the items on the facebook style page. If you searched for "Jason Wu" at first you would get Wu Tang Clan stuff. Once Jason Wu things were on the site, you got an error message each time you searched his name. I really am amazed Target hasn't gotten their website straightened out yet. I got to the store ten minutes before it opened and there were twenty people ahead of me in line. It was a bit crazy. The purses were gone in 2 minutes. I managed to snag a few things I wanted to try on - the navy dress with the stripes, the pinwheel dress, and the blue sweater (two sizes too big). I didn't get any of it. I had the last daisy purse, but in person I didn't love it so I put it back. In the end I'll probably only keep the cat tote since I'm at a loss with scarves. Hope you have luck finding what you want! I like the daisy top on you!

Why is it that Target items never look as good IRL as they do in the look books? That pleated skirt looks promising and the bow blouse, but everything looks like just regular f21 merch

I got to my local Target about 08:20 and the racks were nearly empty. (Many ebayers milling around)

Our store also got a very small collection as it is. I was surprised how many people were interested in it, as this area I live in isn't very Brand focused.

I was able to snag the navy chiffon floral dress with belt in a Small, the belize blue cap sleeve blouse in Small, the cat print cream tee in an XS which fits awesome. The cat print bag and a small classic flap handbag.

I saw the sleeveless navy floral top but was worried how it would look. Seeing it on you makes me wish I had grabbed it!

The smalls are a bit big, but I think they will work.

I wish there were more things available. There were a few larger sizes available though when I left.
#27 Christina (Homepage) on 2012-02-07 02:03 (Reply)
I was extremely disappointed. I tried on the white shirt with the tie. It was way too see-through. I tried on the red and blue striped dress. Very oversized (belt wouldn't help). I even tried on the blue floral dress with the yellow belt. The ruching on the chest didn't fit well and made my boobs look strange. It seemed like everything was 2 sizes too big. I had to go down to an XS. It also seemed like everything was boxy- boxy shirt, boxy blue floral tank, and boxy dress. It also seemed like some of the pieces were stuck in the 60's (the yellow and blue dress with pearls), and didn't have much "modernization" to them. =(

I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL and went today. There were easily 3 or 4 racks full with various sizes. Didn't really see anything that Wowed me though. Although the pleated black skirt was tempting :-)
#29 Lauren on 2012-02-07 15:26 (Reply)
Just a few pieces left when I got there around 11. I did snag one of the black pleated skirts and love it! Can't wait to wear it this spring.

Re: Missoni I went on the Target website a few weeks ago and there was tons of Missoni stuff, some of it on clearance!! Could this be the ebay people who returned it? I was able to get the 2 cardigans I originally wanted. Maybe this will happen with Jason Wu also!
#31 Patty on 2012-02-08 21:27 (Reply)
I went yesterday to target and someone had returned some clothes. I got the black and the blue printed skirt for 8 $ each, the blue prinnted dress and the wheel dress for 11 $ each and the trench for 16. I was lucky to get all small sizes
