#11 Ashley on 2008-09-24 07:52
TURKEY. hands down my favorite bird. This bird brings my family together once a year--even though we're scattered around the state. It gets relatives who speak to each other maybe twice a year to put down their differences and pick up a whisk (or potato peeler, or rolling pin). And in the process of dressing, roasting, carving and sharing this bird, we all laugh and grow a little closer than we were over the months before. Thats why the Turkey is my FAVORITE bird. (And it tastes good with a apricot-rum glaze!)
#12 Jeni (Homepage) on 2008-09-24 07:56
The cardinal is my favorite bird. Not only do I love the color red, but any bird that can rock a "mohawk" is on my list!
#13 Deanna Larson on 2008-09-24 08:05
My fav is probably the BlueJay since I have a few that love to visit my back yard and sing all afternoon. It's the most lovely sound especially during this time after hurricane to hear Mr. Blue Jay chipping away in my jasmine.

I love zebra finches. They are from Australia, and the males sing a single song their entire lifetime. For the past 7 years, I've studied how they learn their songs. They are the most adorable creatures and I love them to pieces! I will always have a few zebra finches as pets. I can't imagine not waking up to their delightful sounds.
#44 Beth on 2008-09-24 12:53
My favorite bird (far and away) is the penguin. The fact that penguins mate for life displays a wonderfully romantic aspect of the animal kingdom. Penguins go through so much for their families (mothers walking hundreds of miles for food, fathers huddling together for warmth to protect their only child, etc.) ... They're inspiring, as well as beautiful!
#45 Katie on 2008-09-24 13:05

I love Cranes
#47 Linda Lansford on 2008-09-24 13:10
I love owls. I love how they can turn their heads. I love how they stand so still that sometimes you can't tell the difference between a real owl and those fake owls people put on their roof to scare away other birds. I remember getting so excited about one of those as a child only to be told it wasn't real. Still, I think owls are amazing to look at and have some amazing color schemes going on in their feathers. You could paint a room that shades of an owl!
#48 Natural Surroundings (Homepage) on 2008-09-24 13:19
that ring is superb and it would be the perfect complement to a cocktail dress for the holiday season. my favorite bird is the hummingbird since they're so fleeting, yet they make such a huge impact despite their tiny size.

I love to pelicans. They are fascinating to watch. The next time you see one in water, watch their tails. They will always wiggle their tail feathers when they catch a fish to eat. I guess that means that they are happy with their meal.

I love to sit and read a book and every now and then see a humminbird eating. It's pretty cool. Oh! And I think that there's a nest somewhere nearby. I hope so! I want to see little baby hummingbirds.

My favorite birds are robins. When I see them as winter is ending, I know that the warmer spring weather is coming. Every year a group of them make nests in my trees. It is fun to watch as the babies hatch and grow and as the parents teach their young to fly and hunt for worms.

Hey, I don't think it's fair that the comments are supposed to be posted by noon eastern time!!! I'm on Pacific time and this arrived in my inbox when I was sleeping at 1 am! This is the first chance I've had to check my email and it's only 10:33 am Pacific time. Please take note of this for future contests.

Anyway, my favorite bird is the tiny quetzal of Guatemala. They're mostly green and live in the very green jungle trees of Guatemala. They are sought after for there long tails. These birds are GORGEOUS! I actually bought a wall hanging of 2 quetzals for my kitchen when I was in Guatemala this summer.
