The Budget Beauty Babe sees how well Suave products stack up to their pricier, brand name competitors. —BB

The folks over at Suave have a new campaign targeted at recessionistas everywhere, women who are looking to cut back on expenses without cutting back on their lifestyles. Suave calls it "Suavenomics," and the premise is that you can save money by switching from more expensive brands to their Suave equivalents.
Could this be true? Are Suave products just as good as their more expensive counterparts? We decided to put their Humectant Shampoo and Conditioner to the test, compared to Nexxus Luxurious Moisturizing Shampoo and Humectress Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner.

Could this be true? Are Suave products just as good as their more expensive counterparts? We decided to put their Humectant Shampoo and Conditioner to the test, compared to Nexxus Luxurious Moisturizing Shampoo and Humectress Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner.
Suave says that their product "deeply moisturizes as well as Nexxus." We found that it did! These products are not identical, not by any means, but they do both have the same results. In order to test the products we divided our hair in half, and tested Suave on one side and Nexxus on the other. Both sides of the head were moisturized and soft, however, they weren’t completely identical during the entire process. The Nexxus felt richer and softer in the shower while applying, and it also lathered more, but it took longer to rinse off. The Suave went on easy, and rinsed off quickly and cleanly.
So while the end result was the same, the process was different. We actually decided we liked the Suave better; in fact one of our testers really despised the sensation that they couldn’t wash the Nexxus off of their hair. We also preferred the Suave scent. So in these times, we’ve decided we’re going to be using the Suave. How about you, have you switched to lower cost beauty products to save money? Or have you been buying Suave (or another similar brand) all along?
