Ask BB: How to Wear a Red Dress

See how stars such as Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard accessorize a red dress.

I have a dress similar to this one (at right). Almost exact same color (called currant) and the material is cotton/sateen. I really need help with what color shoes and what types of accessories to go with this dress. —Adri

From fire-engine red to burgundy, all shades of red dresses look smashing with black accessories. You could pair your dress with this season's fierce, strappy heels for a modern look or find some elegant D'Orsay heels or peep-toe pumps to play up the ladylike feel of your dress. The choice is yours. Add a black clutch or small shoulder bag, a piece or two of jewelry in either gold or silver (match the hardware on the purse for foolproof coordination), and you're all set. Try adding further contrast with ebony onyx or black-lacquer jewelry.

Here are some hand-picked accessories that I'd consider pairing with your dress; everything's $45 or less!

Black is always a safe bet, but I love seeing red with deep and hot pinks, too.

No doubt, this color combo might be a tad harder to pull off but the resulting look would be hot.

Although black & cream are the safe choices, metallics (especially gold with that currant) would be another option or even chocolate or grey.

Excellent suggestion.

My advice - Pair red with gold. Looks FAB (think of the red dress Carrie Underwood wore and all those sweet gold accessories she paired it with).

You can also achieve a smashing effect with turquiose accessoires. For example heels and clutch in that color and you'll need no jewelry or maybe only a small silver bracelet (when the clutch has also silver details). My friend wore a red dress with turqouise and she looked absolutely stunning!
