Beauty Review: RAWMinerals 7-Piece Discovery Kit

Beauty Review: RAWMinerals 7-Piece Discovery Kit

The best way to get into a new makeup routine is through a comprehensive starter kit. Usually these kits are the best bang for your buck since you get enough of everything you need, and sometimes you try out products you never would have picked up separately. RAWMinerals gifted me with just such a kit—the RAWMinerals 7-Piece Discovery Kit ($180), which includes everything you need to get started with mineral makeup, including two mineral foundations, Mineral Glow, Active Veil SPF 18, a foundation brush, a concealer brush, a multi-tasking retractable brush, and a DVD titled "Getting Started."

I really liked this mineral makeup set, and would put it up there with BareEscentuals. I liked the way it went on, and I think it looked beautiful and natural. More importantly, I really love that the company cares about not putting any crap that can hurt you or the environment in their products. You feel like you’re putting rich, exotic and beautiful botanicals on your skin, resulting in the perfect blend of consumer consciousness and luxury.

Although my kit was complimentary, I can not ignore the steep price tag of $180 for the kit (although you can use promo code DISCOVERY50 at checkout for 50% off, bringing the price down to $90 plus shipping). Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a starter kit. The most I've spent in the past was $60 for my bareMinerals Starter Kit. (Yeah, I know, still pretty steep but I am a mineral makeup aficionado!) However, if you're concerned about the chemicals used in many other makeup brands today, spending a little more might be worth it for you in the long run. The choice is yours!
