Beauty Review: American Apparel Nail Polish in Office

Beauty Review: American Apparel Nail Polish in Office

A couple weeks ago I bought my first bottle of American Apparel nail polish in a mint green shade called Office. Love the color, hate the quality. The formula is thin and watery, and it takes FOREVER to dry. You need a minimum of 3 coats to achieve bottle color. It also reeks and the chemical smell lingers long after the polish has dried (so much for being free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde).

I really wanted to love this polish because the color is so spot on, reminds me of Essie's Mint Candy Apple, but AA will have to improve the formula before I give their polish another try. It's a shame because just about every single one of the 18 colors in their collection is tempting me.

Have you had better luck with American Apparel nail polish? Which color(s) did you try?

American Apparel polishes are $6 each or 3 for $15, and you can purchase them at American Apparel stores or online at americanapparel.net.

If you're looking for a cheap but good quality nail polish, ULTA has a new brand called essence & they are only .99 each! They come in all kinds of fun colors & if you put a top coat on, last for a pretty good while!

I'm planning a trip to a shiny new Ulta by my house soon so I will definitely look for these!

Ulta has so many awesome products. Im hands on and my nail polish chips easily. What do you think is the best in-expensive nail polish Ulta has to offer?

If you like that color you should try "Re-fresh Mint" by China Glaze. I got it from Amazon for about $3 and it looks very similar.

I got the AA nail polish in office, poppy, and rose bowl.. although i've only had time to try the poppy color (red/orange). It's a great spring color and you're right, it takes 3 coats to get the desired color. I actually didn't have trouble with getting it to dry and I didn't notice a smell after the polish dried, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. With 3 coats and a top coat, the polish lasted about a week before chipping. Not bad in my opinion.

Maybe it's just my monitor, but it looks gray on my end. In fact, it's the same color as my Swingline stapler, so "Office" is apropos!

Wow...3 coats huh. That's way too much for me. I do like the color though. How was the price-quality ratio?

For $6 I'd much rather get something like Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, which has a much better brush imo, goes on with 2 coats (for the most part) and lasts as long as any nail polish i've worn.

Most AA polishes I've tried so far took 2 coats for opacity. Their darker shades are super pigmented and awesome, especially Peacock and Mount Royal!

For nail polishes I only trust brands that specialize in producing nail polishes...$6 is a rip off, I could get a bottle of Essie for $4 or less from Amazon!

I heard about Ulta as well and I'm planning to buy it. My favourite is still O.P.I, the price is not that good but they have like every colour of the world! And the quality is amazing.

Rimmel "60 seconds" in "Grey matter" is a similar color (except is has a blue undertone) but it is a lot better quality, and the brush is amazing! it gives a really nice color after just one coat.
