Beauty Review: NEW Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Shampoo & Conditioner

Last month, Pantene launched four new collections based on four unique hair structures: Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions, Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Hair Solutions, Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series and Pantene Pro-V Color Hair Solutions. The company says that after five years of research, 1 million ingredient combinations, and worldwide testing among 20,000 women, the New Pantene series is a "complete reinvention," boasting an upgraded ingredient list, tailored systems, new packaging and new fragrance.

Mind you, Pantene has been my old standby for years, so I was little wary about the changes (if it ain't broke, don't fix it) but of course I was curious to see the results for myself.

I received free samples of NEW Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Flat to Volume Shampoo (retail $3.99) and NEW Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Flat to Volume Conditioner (retail $3.99). I made my selections after completing Pantene's Personal Hair Consultation tool that will help identify your structure and suggest products to work with your unique hair needs. Fancy!

I've been using it every couple days for the past couple weeks and here's how it went:
What they say: "Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Flat to Volume Shampoo's customized formulation gently cleans fine hair to help remove dulling residue and beuil-up that work against body and lift. Flat hair begins to look full again with weightless body and restored shine."

"Flat to Volume Shampoo with HPM Cellulose, a polymer designed for fine hair, strikes a perfect balance of cleansing and conditioning to leave hair squeaky clean and ready for healthy volume. Micro-boosters prepare fine hair's structure to achieve voluminous styles."

"Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Flat to Volume Conditioner's conditioning formula replenishes hair from root to tip to leave hair smooth, soft and manageable. Conditioning agents provide strength against damage and breakage to provide a healthy-looking shine. Lightweight system helps to give fine hair a boost for all-day volume."

What I think: Thank goodness they didn't ruin the old formulas! This stuff is fabulous but I can't say there's anything profoundly new about it. Things I notice are the light, fresh scent that does not linger; the fact that a little product goes a long way; and how it leaves my hair soft, manageable and frizz-free. The shampoo lathers quickly, spreads easily and rinses clean. The conditioner is super rich and creamy, spreads readily and I can leave a little in without my hair feeling weighted down or gunky.

If you are a Pantene fan, you'll like the new line. If you didn't like Pantene in the past, you may like this stuff because there are subtle differences, most notably the scent. I will continue to explore more natural/organic shampoos and conditioners but I won't stop using Pantene because this stuff just works so well and it's super affordable. Will I buy it again? Of course.

You know, it's funny. I have thick, very voluminous and curly hair. I used this flat to volume shampoo, and it actually flattens my hair out! Haha.

That is funny. Some shampoos make my hair noticeably more limp and flat while others are too drying so then my hair frizzes out (not the kind of volume you want!). The Pantene didn't give my hair volume nor did it weigh it down, just kinda stayed the same! :-)

BB - great post!!

I swear by the medium-thick formula. It makes my fluffy, wavy hair more manageable when I air-dry (although the fluff still hangs around a bit) and has noticeably softened my hair in its entirety. I love the scent as well, fresh & fragrant but not too overwhelming. I use the shampoo/conditioner in combination with Frizz-Ease serum on towel dried hair and have outstanding results in terms of smoothing.
