Off the Rack: LPLP Linea Pelle for Target

Earlier today I checked out the LPLP Linea Pelle for Target collection, a cheap-chic line of handbags, belts and bracelets by designer leathergoods brand Linea Pelle. I really wanted to like this line but overall I was disappointed. I hate to say something looks cheap - if you happen to like the collection, I don't want to offend - but Target didn't do a very good job with this line in my opinion. The hobos that I expressed an earlier interest in were featherlight - mind you, I don't need an excessively heavy handbag, but it's got to have some weight so you can balance it properly on your shoulder. That weight also gives a bag its luxe, genuine-leather look and feel, which was so clearly missing from these plastic purses. The bracelets were cool but pricey ($9.99 for two) as were the smaller wristlets and cross-body bag. If you want a fun, cheap purse for spring, you're better off just going with one of the less expensive bags from Mossimo or Merona and calling it a day. I'll post some of my favorites from those brands later.

Have you seen the LPLP Linea Collection in person? What did you think?

LOVE that blue purse, and all the others. Ugh, to die for. Can't wait until Target is available to Canadians - I think they're opening a few ones up here soon.

Seriously? Faux leather bags in amazing colors and under $40 bucks? from Linea Pelle who makes all things in washed leathers-That's amazing!
Sorry to disagree but I think these look great. I actyually bought the studded clutches for all my sisters & they love them!
Sure, the feel could be a little nicer but come on! AND I alkso bought the white stud tote to take to the beach or pool with my kids and btw what's not to love about a wipeable bag??
I say good job LP, not a bad first go!

I agree I think the line looks under par even for Target!

I was also underwhelmed. They looked and felt very inexpensive and are not worth the price IMO. They don't seem like they'll hold up either.

One word: ICK!! I spotted this collection in my local target and went to feel the material, and immediately thought it was terrible tacky. Very fake feeling and rubbery, almost sticky to the touch IMO. I love love love your real LP dark blue hobo (pretty sure you said you bought it on Ideeli or am I thinking of the wrong bag?) and have been checking out sample sites ever since to find an LP bag (no luck yet). Anyway, I have been really disappointed with Targets designer collabos, pretty much ever since Issac Mizrahi left they have all gone downhill. Oh well, keeping my fingers crossed to score some dresses when the reissue comes out 3/13! Will be at the door promptly at 8am :-)

I love your blog and you have great insight on how to find great things on a budget. I am currently on over 400 money saving websites, but I just found your blog.

I love your insight on women's fashion, handbags and good deals...but do you also write about mens clothes? I would love to find more great deals on men's clothes!

Keep up the good work!

I was also underwhelmed by this collection.

I spotted the new Mossimo messenger bags recently, and I thought they were very cute and roomy. They're selling out quickly in stores, I think.

I haven't seen them in person, but from those pictures they look very cheap. I'm not very familiar with the standard LP line, but those designs are plain and the fabrics look just blah. No creativity at all.

I saw in person and thought they were cheap as well. Very disappointing.

Agreed. The pictures here and on Target.com actually make the bags look better than they are, but once you examine them up close, these bags scream "cheap". The PVC they used is of really poor quality. I wonder if Target (and the folks behind Linea Pelle) were embarrassed about how these bags turned out - hence the lack of publicity or advertising behind the line?

I wanted to love these bags sooo bad, but as others have pointed out, they just look cheap. A shame, as the cross body bag with a detachable strap held such possibilities (any suggestions for an affordable quality look-a-like would be greatly appreciated).

Target-Addict, I had wondered why there was no publicity for this line and I think you might be right. The Hollywood Intuition bags (from way back when) were, in my opinion, straight up knock-offs of LP, and much better quality than the LPLP line. I still have one of them, in fact.

Oh, man, I can smell the plastic from here! The material has zero drape -- gross. For shame, Target. For shame.

I just picked up the perforated olive barrel satchel from the line today. It looks fantastic, but the feel just isn't there. For $30, I want some longevity. So, I am going to think on it for a day and maybe look around for something similar with a little more quality.
