60 Second Beauty: Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm

Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm in Hint of Coral Swatch and Review

I'm not someone who typically wears lip color on a daily basis - more of a lip balm or gloss kind of girl - but recently I've been stepping out of my comfort zone and punching things up with brighter colors for spring. The product that's convinced me color is key for a fresh spring beauty look? Sonia Kashuk's new Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm in Hint of Coral. Recently I received a complimentary sample to review and here's what I thought:

What they say: Add a pop of color to your beauty look while protecting your pout with NEW Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm. The luxe formula, available in four chic shades, contains anti-aging ingredients to nourish lips and restore moisture while imparting juicy color. $8.99 each at Target, Target.com

What I thought: The first thing you notice about this lip balm is the luxe black packaging - this balm has a nice weight to it (doesn't feel like flimsy plastic) and the cap glides on and off smoothly and securely. It's the little things that make a product feel more high-end.

Next, you notice the gorgeous coral hue which actually matches the color swatch on the package - brilliant! This balm has a strange hard-to-place scent - wax? Clay? At any rate, it's very subtle and doesn't smell chemically so I actually like it.

In terms of application, this balm glides on smooth and, to be honest, a bit unevenly. But once you press your lips together and apply a second coat, the color looks vibrant without being overpowering. You might describe it as natural with a punch. The color is undeniably a rich coral but it works so well with my pale skin that it's something I can reach for every day. You can wear a little over another lip balm or really layer it on for a more pronounced look.

The true test of a lip balm for me is how it wears throughout the day - I have no expectations of longevity, after all, it's a balm, but I expect it to keep my lips feeling somewhat smooth - and this balm delivers. I think I must be allergic to quite a few lip products because even ones that claim to hydrate lips often make them shrivel up and get super dry (what I assume is my body's allergic reaction to something in the balm). But my lips clearly approve of whatever's in Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm, because they stay just as moisturized and smooth after a couple hours of wear as when I first apply the product.

In terms of longevity, it depends on what you're doing or drinking or eating. This balm can survive a light snack but not a big meal. At the same time, it fades in a subtle way so you don't have to be self-conscious about what your lips look like - they'll still look good (if that makes any sense) and you can just reapply as necessary.

The bottom line: I was pleasantly surprised by this product and really like it, especially the coral color. I can't speak to the other hues but I'd definitely buy this balm again and look forward to trying some of the other shades.
