Seasonal decor can be a little on cheesy side if you’re not careful. Some even reminds me of the seasonal, felted sweaters my high school history teacher wore. Since then, I’m always on the lookout for decor that is holiday appropriate, but doesn’t venture into ugly holiday sweater territory.

When you think of a warm, cozy, and inviting bedroom, pillows galore, faux fur throws, and neutral yet cheery hues come to mind. If all that fluff isn’t your thing, you can still achieve the same level of comfort in a bedroom on the other end of the spectrum. Rest assured, cool tones and modern pieces can be comfortable and create a space you’ll want to laze away in. Just like some people are chocolate ice cream lovers and others vanilla (I’m all about strawberry ice cream), there are different versions of comfort and everyone is right. It’s really about identifying what relaxes and calms you as opposed to what most people connote with comfort.

I’m currently in the process of transforming our den into a home office and in addition to shopping for furniture, I started shopping for office supplies. I thought this would be the most unglamorous side of decorating my home office. Buying pens, notebooks, staples, and other supplies is akin to shopping for toilet paper, right? Not only does a rug help define a room in your house, it helps bring warmth into the space which is nice during the holiday season. If you have a small space, a rug can help serve as the statement piece of the room as well as a transitional piece between different aesthetics (modern and rustic or traditional and glam). In a large room, the placement of the rug will create and define multiple spaces while bringing unity to the overall space. My design or décor aesthetic is definitely mid-century modern meets vintage clutter, but I’m always drawn to traditional homes that are simply glamorous: modest use of color and statement pieces. What initially drew me to this space is the non-traditional shape of the sofa. I promise that I scoured the web for a good 2 hours to try and find something similar, but this beauty seems to be one-of-a-kind.
