The fashion world is reeling from the breaking news that designer Alexander McQueen has committed suicide at age 40. [via WWD] As I type this, I'm sitting in the tents at Bryant Park for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and there is a palpable cloud of gloom looming over the crowd (or at the very least, over me) as more and more people get wind of this shocking and devastating news. McQueen was one of those rare geniuses who always pushed the envelope and evoked extreme emotions with his spectacular shows, whether it be ecstasy, awe—even fear. While I was not so secretly disappointed by his foray into cheap-chic fashion via Target, I remained a decades-long fan and always looked forward to seeing what he would do next. Fashion just won't be the same without you, McQueen. Rest in peace…
