Off the Rack: Jewelry Inspired by Amarita Singh, Wendy Mink at Target

Right next to the Anna Sheffield for Target collection, I noticed an amazing albeit nameless collection that reminded me of the exotic, brightly colored jewelry by designer Amrita Singh. (I couldn't find any of these pieces online, so I took a couple pics for reference purposes.) The earrings above are just $14.99 and yet they have all the makings of pricier costume jewelry—beautiful colors, a unique, artsy design, solid craftsmanship, crystals that look like glass, not plastic. Seriously impressive.

There's also some gorgeous jewelry made of semi-precious gems and gold-filled and silver wire that reminded me of the work of jewelry designer Wendy Wink, marked by delicate clusters of beads adorning earrings and dangling as pendants from dainty chains. I'm not saying Target copied anyone, just sharing my impressions. You can also find similar designs on Etsy, or stores like Banana Republic, but it's good to know that you can find such, dare I say, impressive jewelry at Target, too.

Off the Rack: Fall Heels at Target

We've covered Target's flats and boots, so now it's time to take a look at the leg-lengtheners of the bunch: From peep-toe shoeties to snip toe pumps, killer high-heels in all the latest fall styles abound at Target—and of course, they're priced within reach (although I get leery when the prices climb past $30. Target shoes should cost $19.99 or less!)

Target's Mossimo label delivers some edgy platforms in rich colors like cognac and wine (hmm, I sense a trend); while the Merona Collection (fancy Merona line) offers up more classic trends like a delicious Mary Jane in suede with contrasting patent trim. I wish my store had them in the teal, but you'll see a photo of them in black if you scroll down. Tres chic for work or play. Not loving the lace-up oxford heels, but you can't win every time. Which heels have YOU swooning so far?

As you've no doubt noticed, Target's shoe department has been inundated with inexpensive boots ranging from classic black riding boots, to Western-inspired Frye knock-offs (above), to slouchy faux-suede knee-highs. I also spotted the token UGG knock-offs as well as a couple of styles of UGG slipper look-alikes. A low-wedge cognac-colored boot caught my eye from afar (vaguely reminiscent of Loeffler Randall), as did a black buckle-embellished moto boot, but both looked especially plastic-y and poorly constructed up close. Overall, with all boots priced under $40, Target did a good job of offering something for everyone, but I was disappointed they didn't have a greater selection of ankle boots and booties. (I did buy these Kalila ankle boots, but they're the only ones I saw.) Maybe more will show up as the season goes on. Which boots will YOU be buying?

While all of New York City is abuzz over Fashion Week, I'm at my local Target store snapping photos of the latest offerings in Fall shoes! Not that I'm complaining or anything. Anywho, the selection thus far is pretty decent. My favorite pair of flats has to be the Mossimo "Valda" ruffle flats ($24.99) in a yummy cranberry hue (shown above) made with a low-grade, albeit genuine suede upper. Great way to add color to an outfit. Other standouts include these Merona Collection "Rosaline" leopard print flats ($29.99) with a real-leather upper and these Xhilaration "Saniya" plaid flats ($16.99). My only gripe with these (and most flats, I suppose) is that they look best without socks, so the moment the weather cools off, I won't be able to wear them. Which flats (if any) will YOU be buying?

In My Closet: Mossimo "Kalila" Seamed Ankle Boots

In My Closet: Mossimo

My heart skipped a beat when I spotted these Mossimo "Kalila" Seamed Ankle Boots, which I immediately and unhesitatingly purchased for $29.99 at my local Target. The ruched detailing gives these versatile black ankle boots a modern, slightly edgy twist.

A 4" faux-stacked heel gives me the height I need with certain outfits, while a 0.5" platform provides comfort. The non-skid tread means you can even run in these boots, should the need arise.

I'm sorry for the dismal photo quality (they look way better in person) but I wanted to share my find right away in case anyone else is on the hunt for some cheap-chic ankles boots for a fall. Go get 'em, you won't be disappointed!
