I will be going to Prague / Budapest for 10 days in May. There will be lots of walking trips but a few nights of dressing up as well. Weather is typically Sunny mid 50's to high 70's. I just want to take 1 bag for clothes but I am a terrible packer. Is there a website that can help me out or can you put together a list of must haves? I do not want to look like a tourist! I visit this site and the Sartorialist often…unfortunately I haven't spent money on my own clothes in years and my closet is outdated. I don’t mind buying, just want to maximize my purchases to be able to mix and match a lot. I am also looking for a super comfy, super cute pair of shoes good for lots of walking and cobblestone streets. —Posted by isaidjackie in the forums
Let's start with a list of travel must-haves, pieces that will take you from the plane to the ground in style and comfort. First, you'll want a cozy cardigan in a neutral hue that you can wear on the plane, while you're traveling by train or anytime it gets a bit chilly and you need a lightweight cover-up, whether it's an air-conditioned museum or breezy night out.
I've been invited to a casual Spring wedding, and need a cute new dress with accessories to wear. Any suggestions? —Katie
Casual or not, a wedding is still a primo opportunity to get dolled up. May I suggest something from the newly launched Matthew Williamson for IMPULSE collection, exclusively at Macy's?
This day dress is casual yet the color is so striking ($69). Pair it with some platform sandals, as they've done for the catalog, and some striking jewelry like drop-stone earrings or a chunky bangle:
I have looked high and low for a necklace similar to the David Yurman Cable Collectible Initial Necklace ($595) that wasn't as expensive but can't find anything more than a small stamped disk necklace on etsy. I was hoping to find one for my sister's birthday at the end of this month. —Sarah
Initial pendants make great gifts because they're personal and can be worn alone or layered with other jewelry. Here are some affordable options that I think your sister will love:
Recently the folks at Last Call by Neiman Marcus sent me a $75 giftcard to go wild on their website. At first I didn't think I'd be able to find anything I could afford with said meager amount, but I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of mid-priced brands and, yes, deals! As in, incredible bargains! An Alice + Olivia dress for $173, down from $495. J Brand denim shorts for $56, down from $160.
On Wednesday, I attended the David's Bridal Fall 2011 collection preview event in New York City, where I got to meet Nicole Brewer, former "Biggest Loser" contestant and current David's Bridal Style Ambassador.
I had the chance to speak with Nicole about her experience as a celebrity and plus-size fashion expert, and get the scoop on the latest fashion trends for the upcoming wedding season. She's a beautiful person inside and out and so passionate about what she does!
Watch the short video I shot (above) to hear Nicole talk about what to wear to your next spring/summer wedding and how to dress for your shape.
Nicole and the models are all wearing David's Bridal head-to-toe. I absolutely love their latest collection of special occasion dresses, the price points are perfect (nothing I liked was over $150) and they cater to women of all sizes. Enjoy!
