Ask BB: Where to Buy Yoga & Activewear on a Budget

Lululemon's posterior-enhancing "Astro" work-out pants cost $98.

I absolutely love Lululemon yogawear but it is so expensive. Do you know any places that sell that line at a discount? Or any comparable yoga wear that is less expensive? —Michelle

Vancouver-based Lululemon Athletica is a popular yoga-inspired athletic apparel company that's been growing by leaps and bounds. I recently read the company is opening 25 new showrooms in June following a near tripling of net profits. There's clearly a huge demand for their trendy activewear but Michelle is not alone in her complaint: It's really expensive.

So, couple things you can do if you want to get authentic Lululemon for less: Follow the company on Twitter and fan them on Facebook. You'll be the first to hear about special sales, deals, promos and store openings in your area (if and when they happen!).

Or, opt for one of these 3 budget-friendly activewear brands instead that will help you get the Lululemon look for a lot less (click on any image to get shopping details):

1. C9 by Champion for Target: A leader in the workout-gear world, Champion teamed up with Target to bring you everything you need for yoga, running and other sweat-inducing activities, with most items under $24. Available at Target stores and Target.com.

2. Danskin Now for Walmart: This well-known name in fitness apparel has a line of affordable workout gear called Danskin Now available at Walmart and Walmart.com, with cute & functional pieces priced as low as $7.

3. Aerie F.I.T. by American Eagle: Work out in style without spending a fortune with Aerie F.I.T.'s affordable bras, tops, bottoms and footwear. Time to hit the gym!

Where do you shop for stylish yoga and/or workout gear on a budget?

Have you seen the Forever21 line? There have some great tops! There are like none online but check your local store for great tops starting at $4!!! They have some nice tank tops, the shorts though are VERY short (but if you got flaunt it)!

- I love the Danskin Now for Walmart line, it runs a bit big though so size down for a slim fit.

Marshalls and TJ Maxx have some great deals on active wear, too!

Old navy has a great selection too...

I love Danskin! Great quality.

Agree with #3 - Old Navy has a great Selection.

But... the Lulu groove pants are totally worth the splurge. I've had mine for over a year now and love them. They're just the basic black but they are so well made, reversible, and stay in place/never ever ride up. Also, for whatever reason, make my butt look better than any pants I've ever tried!

Splurge on the pants and buy some cute tanks from Old Navy/Aerie! Just my $.02 for what it's worth.

XOXO

The best relatively inexpensive yoga pants I've found are at Victoria's Secret. They're $30, I think, but that's still better than Lululemon, and they're really great quality.

I have to agree with the Old Navy choice, but I'm excited to check out the Danksin stuff at Walmart!

I usually browse the racks at Ross Dress for Less since I can find Nike and Puma at really cheap prices. Also, check the sale racks at your local big box sports stores like Sports Authority or Academy or Modells. I know I've picked up great pants for under $9 some days!

H&M just came out with a sports line that has yoga pants, running gear, and much more. The prices are very affordable too and great quality!

I'm a fan of Express yoga pants. They frequently have coupons and buy 1 get 1 half off deals!

Exactly what I was going to say. I just bought yoga pants at Express that I love. They were Buy Get One 1/2 off, and I had a $20 coupon I got in the mail. It worked out to around $10/ a pair.

I think Lululemon pants are worth the splurge, but I got mine when ruelala was having a major sale. I have a ton of yoga pants from fitcouture.com, target, and ON though, and they are great quality.

Rue La La sells Lululemon from time to time at a discount. You can also check eBay for it on sale.

I own three pairs of the Lululemon pants as well as various cheaper knockoffs, i.e. Champion's line for Target. I love, love, LOVE the Lululemons for travel. Better than wearing jeans.

Other reasons to follow the tips and not buy Lululemon: if you're the average American size. :-/ Oh, designers.

I actually got some yoga pants I really like at Walgreens, but the quality there is soooo variant.

Lulu's are unlike any athletic/yoga pant I've ever put on. They are worth the splurge. The magic of the booty boost in the seams and waistband design. It's an amazing optical illusion. The sizing is friendly to curvy girls and you'll like your number. I'm a large and can fit the 8s and 10s!!

new york & company and old navy all the way!
