Ask BB: What to Wear to a Winter Wedding

Here's a fashion dilemma posted in the forums by we3ramirez: "Young(ish) Mom of Two goes to a fancy Winter Wedding...and has NO idea what to wear! Hope you guys can help a gal out!" —Natalia

For a winter wedding, why not try an eye-catching dress in one of the season's most festive colors: Red! This one shoulder Bisou Bisou dress ($34.99 at JCPenney.com) features fun rosette detailing and the silhouette is flattering for both curvy and boyish figures. Pair it with standout silver peep-toes like these Bow Dress Shoes by Isabel Toledo for Payless ($44.99).

If you're looking for something that's super sophisticated with a little sizzle, check out this Maggy London Side Bow Strapless Jacquard Dress ($128, nordstrom.com). The hint of purple makes it not-your-ordinary LBD while the statement bow is ultra glamorous. Black heels and a chic clutch are all you need to finish the look.

For something elegant with a slight retro vibe, try this Fan Pleat Panel Embellished Dress ($59.95 at eShakti.com) in one of four gorgeous gemstone hues. I love an updated Mary Jane shoe - easy to dance in - and a luxe-looking Merona for Target Fur jacket to top it all off. —BB

Darn, I was hoping you'd have something more practical for attending a wedding in the winter where it's actually cold. It's 15 degrees here, and I have a wedding in 2 weeks. Even with a heavy coat, that dress you recommended is still way too much skin. :-(

I feel your pain — I went to a Christmastime wedding last winter, and I live in Wisconsin. This may not work for a black tie affair, but I wore a fitted cashmere sweater, sequined skirt, opaque black tights and super-tall stiletto ankle boots.

Hope this helps!

Great suggestion! I've written a follow-up post to address this:
