Backstage at Richard Chai, I spoke with Avon Global Hair Stylist Tippi Shorter about creating the tousled-sleek hairstyles (here) for the designer's snappy Spring 2012 runway show.
Chai envisioned a mash-up of two distinct textures for the models' hair - tousled on top, finished with a super-straight pony tail on the bottom.
To get the look, Tippi applied a volumizing spray gel at the roots, followed by blow drying the hair using only the fingers for styling, no brush.
Using a medium hold hairspray applied to her fingertips, Tippi gathered hair into a loose, low ponytail. She roughed up the top some more by piecing out strands with her fingers. A balloon was used to give the hair some intentional static.
That was the disheveled part. Achieving the super-sleek, super-smooth ponytail portion of the hairstyle required a special weapon: Avon's Advance Techniques 3D Rescue serum. "It helps to repair the ends and it actually repairs three years worth of damage in three days," Tippi explained. "Believe me, it really works!"
