Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Clinique Chubby Stick

Clinique Chubby Stick for less!

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products - and their high-end equivalents. This week, we’re chatting tinted lip balms! Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

The Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm was definitely the first BIG, “chubby” crayon-like lip balm that I can remember; in fact, I remember when it launched and thinking “wow, I kind of love the idea of a big lip balm with some actual GOOD color to it” since other lip balms I’ve tried usually, how do we say it, lack? I’ve been testing out some good (cheaper) options over the past month or so and I am in LOVE with REVLON ColorBurst Matte Balm. For one, the color is velvet-like and two, it’s retractable, which means no sharpener required! The Clinique version doesn’t require sharpening either but, for some reason, the REVLON version just seems to last me longer! Plus, I love the fact that it’s also infused with combination of shea, mango and coconut butter, making it the perfect product for dry lips (like mine).

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Splurge versus Save: Photo Finish

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products (and their high-end equivalents!). This week, we’re chatting primers (!). Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

Up until a few years ago I thought primers were totally useless, but then I tried a few different versions (HERE) and realized that they’re actually pretty awesome; one, they make it so that you don’t have to use as much foundation and two, they make your foundation last longer. So what’s the gold standard? Ask any beauty girl and they’ll tell you that they love Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer since it’s a silky blend of antioxidants and vitamins that instantly smooths and perfects skin…but at $36 I’m a little hesitant to buy it regularly. I recently tried out Sephora’s version, Sephora Collection Perfecting Ultra-Smoothing Primer and I absolutely love it! For one, the packaging is super similar (I’m a sucker for good packaging) and two, the results are almost identical to Smashbox’s version.

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Naked Palette

Naked Palette Splurge Versus Save

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products - and their high-end equivalents! This week, we’re chatting Urban Decay NAKED palette and its beauty dupe. Also make sure to check out my newly revamped blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

The pure HYSTERIA that happens when Urban Decay launches a new NAKED palette is truly amazing. If you haven’t tried it for yourself, you simply must. In fact, the palette is so popular that they also launched two other versions (2) and (3) but then there’s the fact that even though I love my original NAKED palette, I find that I only use maybe 3-4 of the shades, making it a big waste of $54. I recently tried a VERY SIMILAR palette, NYX Nude on Nude, and was really impressed with the color similarities AND you even get bonus lip colors!

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: Rosemary + Mint Shampoo

Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo Dupe

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products (and their high-end equivalents!) that are available online and in-store. This week, we’re chatting Rosemary + Mint Shampoo (!). Also make sure to check out my blog, HonestlyJamie.com for even more beauty product reviews and tips.

I love ALL things Aveda (they’re a great brand) and I was super excited to try the Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo because it’s known to add body to fine hair (which I have) without stripping the hair of vital nutrients, and the combination of rosemary and mint is honestly just delicious. The mint helps to wake up your senses and rosemary is the ingredient that helps protect your hair from environmental damage so, aside from the fab smell, it’s really just a great product…but at $13 a bottle? Personally, I’m always willing to pay a little extra for hair care just because I’ll do pretty much anything to give my hair more volume, but then I recently discovered a drugstore brand equivalent that is A-MAZING and, get this, only $3!

Beauty Splurge vs. Steal of the Week: NARS Orgasm Blush

NARS Orgasm blush dupe - look for less

In this weekly column, I’m bringing you my favorite budget-friendly beauty products (and their high-end equivalents!) that are available online and in-store. This week, we’re chatting blush (!).

When it comes to blush, there is one that’s the classic go-to/industry standard. Ask any beauty editor, blogger or makeup artist and they will tell you: NARS Orgasm Blush is where it’s at. The shade looks great on almost any skin tone and its got a natural, healthy-looking color to it that really brightens up any face…but at $30 a pop?
