60 Second Beauty: gud Vanilla Flame Shampoo and Conditioner

Product Review: gud Vanilla Flame Shampoo and Conditioner

I was so excited to receive güd Vanilla Flame Shampoo and Conditioner ($7.00 gudhappens.com) for this review! As a Burt’s Bees fan, I was sure these products would live up to my expectations. According to the product description, this shampoo is natural, nourishing and smells amazing. I am a huge fan of anything vanilla, so this vanilla and rice milk scent was perfect for me.
My first impression: The packaging is wonderful! These 12 fl oz bottles are the perfect size for a shower and are sure to last a while. I really like that the conditioner stands upside down compared to the shampoo. I’ll admit I have washed my hair with conditioner a few times on accident, not realizing I grabbed conditioner instead of shampoo.

The scent: These products both smell absolutely amazing! It's a very fresh scent, nothing sweet or overwhelming. This reminds me more of a spa-inspired vanilla opposed to a holiday candle vanilla. It was very relaxing and the scent definitely dominated the shower.

The products: The shampoo was a little thinner than other shampoos I have used. It was usable, but a little on the watery side. The conditioner was great! It was thick and I could easily apply it to my hair from my hands. I made sure I focused the conditioner on my ends, like I normally do. My hair felt moisturized after my shower and was easy to comb through. That was definitely a plus!

The next day: After using this shampoo and conditioner the previous night, I had a long day of non-stop classes from 7:45-3:00 (on all four corners of campus). Lucky for me, it down poured between two of my classes, leaving me absolutely drenched from 9:00am-3:00pm. When I arrived home, I threw my hair up in a bun until that night. When I took my hair down, all I could smell was the vanilla shampoo and conditioner. Amazing!! Even through the day and all the rain, the scent was still there. I was so impressed!

The ingredients: When I think Burt’s Bees, I think natural, organic and healthy. The back of the shampoo states that there are no parabens, phthalates or petrochemicals. This product is also not tested on animals, which is a huge plus in my book! The packaging is also made with 25% post-consumer recycled plastic. One thing I did notice, however, was the second ingredient in the shampoo is “sodium coco-sulfate.” As many of you may have seen, sulfate-free shampoos have become quite popular among consumers. If a shampoo is sulfate-free, a company is sure to advertise that. While I am no expert when it comes to science or chemicals, it is my general understanding that you should avoid using shampoos with sulfates. Now, chances are your average shampoo has sulfates in it, and many people don’t mind! It’s all personal preference. I found this article from The Huffington Post to be helpful.

Overall impression: If you’re looking for something budget-friendly (about $7.00 a bottle) that smells amazing, this is definitely a go-to! My hair felt moisturized after using it, which is great for my dry, wavy hair. If you’re a consumer who is concerned about the use of sulfates in their shampoo, I would do a little research and decide what’s best for you personally before buying this product.

What do you think of the Gud shampoos and conditioners? I would love to hear your feedback on this product!
